Please permit a naive question about how to reply
"off-list" to an inquiry such as that below.
When I hit Reply, my e-mail software (Outlook Express)
produces the screen you see below, which does not
tell me the e-mail address of "B. Benjaminson".
How do I find her e-mail address?
Sometimes upon hitting Reply, the sender's
e-mail address appears, and sometimes not.
(Hello Betsy, I don't have any information on this
agency, although I live within the listening area of
Toronto AM radio.)

Subject: inquiry re Technovate agency in Toronto

Hello yakkers,
I'd like to hear from people who have worked for Technovate, a Toronto agency.
Please respond off-list.
Thank you.

Having never used Outlook, I have no idea what kind of features it does or
doesn't offer, but surely there must be something that allows you to view the
email headers.

Why not try googling the string: view headers in outlook

The easiest solution is to hit "Reply all" and delete the address of this mailing list. The originator's address is in the "Cc.:" field, so you change the field to "To:" by clicking on the Cc and select To from the drop down menu.

Another method is to hit "Reply" and then click on the "From:" filed of the message quoted on your reply message. (See the quoted message from you.) It has a "mailto" hyper link and automatically opens a new reply message with the address in the "To:" field.

Thanks to every one who offered tricks to obtain
the e-mail address of the sender of an e-mail.  To summarize:

[1] The easiest solution is to hit "Reply all" and delete the address of this mailing list. The originator's address is in the "Cc.:" field, so you change the field to "To:" by clicking on the Cc and select To from the drop down menu.
*** Doesn't work.  Produces two hon...@googlegroups.com addresses in the To: field.

[2] Another method is to hit "Reply" and then click on the "From:" filed of the message quoted on your reply message. (See the quoted message from you.) It has a "mailto" hyper link and automatically opens a new reply message with the address in the "To:" field.
*** Doesn't work.  Clicking on the "From:" field has not effect.

[3] You click "Forward" and then copy and paste the sender's info into the "To" space.
*** What sender's information?  All I see is the name "B. Benjaminson", with no further information.  Will copying this string to the "To" field suffice?  I'll try it ...
Nope, it doesn't work.  I get a message saying "No matches found for 'B. Benjaminson' (in my list of e-mail addresses, I presume).
I suspect that all this advice comes from "what works for me",
with whatever e-mail software the advice-giver is using.

[4] Why not try googling the string: view headers in outlook
*** That finds, among other things,
which describes something I cannot make appear on my screen.
And why does the narrator say "Them." at 0:31?
But something similar does produce the desired information:
RIGHT-click on the message, scroll down to "Properties"
and LEFT-click (or RIGHT-click) on it.
Then a small window appears saying
     B. Benjaminson   <benj...@gmail.com>
So this seems to produce the desired information,
but what a non-obvious rigmarole!
Is this process of discovery-on-your own supposed
to have a pedagogical benefit?
Anyway, thanks to everyone for your help in
uncovering a procedure that is easy to forget unless
you use it often.  (Next time this occurs, I'll probably
have to look up this procedure in the honyaku archives.)

Have you tried clicking the name of the sender?
(Thunderbird displays the address when mousing over the name and
also displays the mail address at the bottom of the screen.)
In addition, the mail address is displayed after the name in the
quoted text of the mail.)

Have fun (and Thunderbird),

Roland

*** Yes, but all that happens is that "From: B. Benjaminson"
gets highlighted; nothing resembling an e-mail address appears.
It appears that everyone's e-mail software is different,
and that the procedures to do various things are not
standardized, forcing the user to try various things until
something works (I found a solution).
And as you can see above, when hitting Reply sometimes
-- like now -- the sender's address appears (but sometimes not).
Thanks to everyone for their help (even though most of it didn't work).

Have you tried double-clicking or right-clicking the name of the
sender?
The program might offer to create a message to that person.

Slight correction (excuse my impudence):

Have Thunderbird, and then have Fun.

Yes, but that only applies to people who are not yet using
Thunderbird. <g>

Have fun (especially after switching to Thunderbird),
