Thanks to every one who offered tricks to obtain
the e-mail address of the sender of an e-mail. To summarize:
[1] The easiest solution is to hit "Reply all" and
delete the address of this mailing list. The originator's address is in the
"Cc.:" field, so you change the field to "To:" by clicking on the Cc and select
To from the drop down menu.
*** Doesn't work. Produces two
hon...@googlegroups.com addresses in
the To: field.
[2] Another method is to hit "Reply" and then click on the
"From:" filed of the message quoted on your reply message. (See the quoted
message from you.) It has a "mailto" hyper link and automatically opens a new
reply message with the address in the "To:" field.
*** Doesn't work.
Clicking on the "From:" field has not effect.
[3] You click "Forward" and then copy and paste the sender's info into the
"To" space.
*** What sender's information? All I see is the name "B.
Benjaminson", with no further information. Will copying this string to the
"To" field suffice? I'll try it ...
Nope, it doesn't work. I get a message saying "No matches found for
'B. Benjaminson' (in my list of e-mail addresses, I presume).
I suspect that all this advice comes from "what works for me",
with whatever e-mail software the advice-giver is using.
[4] Why not try googling the string: view headers in outlook
***
That finds, among other things,
which describes something I cannot make appear on my screen.
And why does the narrator say "Them." at 0:31?
But something similar does produce the desired information:
RIGHT-click on the message, scroll down to "Properties"
and LEFT-click (or RIGHT-click) on it.
Then a small window appears saying
So this seems to produce the desired information,
but what a non-obvious rigmarole!
Is this process of discovery-on-your own supposed
to have a pedagogical benefit?
Anyway, thanks to everyone for your help in
uncovering a procedure that is easy to forget unless
you use it often. (Next time this occurs, I'll probably
have to look up this procedure in the honyaku archives.)
