Date DV - Japanese English?

I am translating a bunch of Japanese documents related to
a women's society into English. There is one term I am not
familiar with: デート DV. All I know for sure is that DV stands
for "domestic violence." What is "date" doing here? I did a
quick Google check and references seem to be primarily
Japanese sites.

1. Does "date" mean dating, the initial step of amorous activities
between men and women?

2. If "date DV" is a Japanees English term, what would be a
more acceptable American English term?

I think you're looking for "unmarried domestic violence" or "domestic
violence between unmarried couples." There is another related term, date
rape, but I'd probably use the unmarried domestic violence above.

Gives a good background, but it is an interesting quandary in English. I am
not sure the term "domestic violence" can be used unless you are in a
"domestic" relationship (i.e., at least the 事実婚 stage if not married)

Spousal abuse also implies a spouse.

abusive partner also implies a more formal relationship than may be the
case.

Stalker implies a specific form of abuse.

Other than that we are much more likely to distinguish by gender.

As in "my psychobitch girlfriend made me drop out of law school," or "her
boyfriend was a real bastard."

I agree. It sounds like Manako has this one nailed down (unless someone has
something else).

Although despite this term being accepted it does seem a little strange to
me, like you date violence, instead of dating _a person_ who gets violent.
