Hi everyone,

Hope you're well.

Here's an opportunity you may be interested in:

Commonwealth Shorts is a partnership between Commonwealth Writers, B3 Media and The Commonwealth Broadcasting Association/Worldview.  It is a capacity building scheme to give new writer/directors the opportunity to make a film along the theme of relationships. The films are designed to promote debate about a particular issue which is relevant to the film maker’s community, for example, indigenous rights, migration or homosexuality.

The current writer/directors are: Wanjiru Kairu in Kenya, Oscar Knightly in New Zealand, Jules Koostachin in Canada, Kareem Mortimer in The Bahamas, and Lisa Harewood in Barbados. They have made fire short films as part of the Commonwealth Shorts programme. These films will premiere in Auckland, New Zealand in February 2013. They  will also screen at international festivals and used in advocacy work across the Commonwealth.

As part of the launch, Commonwealth Shorts together with Documentary NZ Trust and supported by the New Zealand Film Commission, will run a filmmaking workshop for new writer / directors from  24th – 27th February 2013 in Auckland, New Zealand. We’re looking for 5 – 7 more film makers from the countries listed below (including Solomons Islands) to join our existing participants.
