All Honeywell Teachers,

Only a long weekend separates us from the beginning of the Honeywell
Summer Institute. One of the first things we will do on Monday is get
to know each other a little bit and we will do that via this Google
group. If you want to do that before Monday feel free to do so. Just
click "Reply" at the bottom of my message.

First, here is a little background about me:

I am responsible for developing and maintaining Internet-based
curriculum materials as well as assisting with teacher training at
CIESE (Center for Innovation in Engineering and Science Education). I
enjoy working on a variety of topics from underwater robotics to water
sampling and have traveled to India, Bangladesh and Nepal as part of
my work. Go to http://sites.google.com/site/ciese07030/ to find out
more about the projects I work on.

Previous to joining CIESE, I taught high school science and as an
adjunct faculty member for five years. I taught Earth Science,
Astronomy and Physics and I am certified in Biology. Previous to my
teaching stint, I participated in a number of research projects at the
university level, including research in neo-tropical rainforests of
Costa Rica, as well as worked in the Bering Sea of Alaska as a marine
observer. I graduated from Cornell University with a B.S. in
Agricultural & Biological Engineering and a M.A.T. in Science
Education.

I am looking forward to an exciting and engaging week!

Enjoy the weekend. Cheers! Greg

I currently teach 7th grade life science at Woodrow Wilson Middle
School in Edison Township. I have been teaching for 4 years. I love
technology, but don't get around to using it in the classroom enough.
Prior to teaching, I was a IT consultant/programmer for about 5
years. Personally, I have 4 year old boy/girl twins at home and if I
wasn't here today, I'd be pulling the rest of my hair out by this time
of the morning.

Hello,

My name is Albert Padilla. I teach at middle school science at PS # 5
in Jersey City. I have a BS in biology and MA in Biomedical Science. I
use technology often in the Classroom. My last project, my students
created a energy newscast. The students video taped the newscast and
edit using Pinnacle program. The used a green screen to help give the
newscast a real feel. I am here to learn about new innovative projects
and learn from fellow colleagues.

Hi All,
I started teaching way back in the '70s, took a long time off, then
returned in 2001. I teach 8th grade Physical Science at Park Middle
School in Scotch Plains. The emphasis is on student directed inquiry
based discovery. Great fun!

I teach 8th grade Earth Science at LCJSMS in Summit NJ. I am also the
K-8 Science Supervisor. I am the President Elect of the New Jersey
Science Teachers Association. We are always looking for energetic
individuals to get involved in the organization.

Wow! We have a very diverse group of teachers from diverse
backgrounds! It seems we have a few more 7th grade life science
teachers than any other. Perhaps I can add another life science
project to the mix. Working with middle school teachers is fun for me
in part because we can cover so many subjects.

From the reviews yesterday afternoon, it looks like the pace is just
right for most people with a few people saying it is too slow. Also I
noticed a number of responses than there was not enough interaction
with colleagues. My plan is for that to change today. See you all
soon! Greg
