TODAY: Sierra Student Coalition to Hold Skype Press Conference

from Copenhagen Climate Change Conference

Copenhagen, Denmark—Eighteen members of the Sierra Student Coalition—the youth-led chapter of the Sierra Club—have joined with more than 500 U.S. youth activists and thousands more from around the world to make their voice heard at the United Nations Climate Change Conference currently taking place in Copenhagen, Denmark.  The SSC members are among the more than 42,000 journalists, diplomats, politicians, and activists officially accredited to the proceedings (formally known as the 15th Conference of the Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change).  Tens of thousands of others have also participated in outside events held in conjunction with the conference, including a weekend demonstration that attracted nearly 100,000 participants.  More than 100 heads of state, including President Obama, are also expected to address the conference later this week.

“Young people have the most to gain or lose, depending on how the U.S.--and the world—deals with global warming,” said Holly Jones.  “We came to Copenhagen to make sure our leaders understand that U.S. youth are demanding a fair, binding, and ambitious international climate deal.  We’re very excited to be able to participate in this momentous conference and support those pushing for a successful outcome here in Copenhagen.”

The Sierra Student Coalition members (see below for a full roster of the delegation) will today hold a live press conference on skype to discuss their impressions of the conference to date and hopes for what the conference may achieve before it closes on Friday.
