Dear Friends of the Homelessness Marathon,

I am writing to make the Homelessness Marathon's plea for a year's end
contribution. My main pitch is that we're cheap, and we'll do more with less
than anybody else.

Our next broadcast is going to be the first of its kind, by us or, of course,
by anybody. In celebration of our fifteenth anniversary, we'll be moving the
broadcast to the daytime on a weekend (Sunday, October 21st, 2012 to be
precise) so that the voices of the poor can be heard before the election.

There will also be a few more changes for the next Homelessness Marathon. For
one thing, this will be the first one where I'm not the director. I stepped
down on September 1st, and Jessica Lockhart, our former associate director, is
now our interim director. For another thing, this broadcast will originate,
primarily, from our affiliates, going hour to hour, talking to homeless people
from one part of the country to another. I am always hopeful that our nation
will finally grasp that what happens to them happens to us all.

I must relate that we are in straightened circumstances, but we still have a
little bit of money in the bank. Just a few hundred dollars more will get us
over the hump and enable this broadcast to take place. So we're not kidding
when we say that just a few little gifts could make a big difference.

Should you be so disposed, we would be grateful if you would go to
http://www.homelessnessmarathon.org and hit the "Donate" button.

With Best Wishes for the Holidays,

Jeremy Weir Alderson
