Harnessing the Sun to make Beer.
Portland, OR - The Homebrew Exchange (HBX), a DIY beer, soda, wine,
and cheese making store located in North Portland, Oregon, will be
conducting a solar-powered brewing demonstration at the North American
Organic Brew Festival (NAOBF).
The solar-powered, organic brewing demonstration will begin at noon on
Saturday. “We will be brewing an Imperial IPA recipe we created
especially for this event,” said owner Jocelyn Fabbri. “We are also
are excited to begin selling this recipe as our first organic beer
ingredient kit, both in our store and online.”
The solar component of the brewing will be provided by Imagine
Energy. “We are really excited to work with Imagine Energy to create
beer from the power of the sun,” said Fabbri, “We thought the idea of
using organic ingredients as well as solar energy, to make beer, was a
very fun, Portland thing to do. We enjoy sharing our love of home
brewing and hope people will see how easy and fun it is to make your
own beer.” Imagine Energy will be supplying solar-heated water which
will be used in the grain mashing part of the brewing process.
Homebrew Exchange will have a booth at the festival where they will be
giving away free stickers, selling t-shirts, books, and memberships to
the American Homebrewer’s Association. They will also be signing
people up for brewing classes at the store, and of course, talking
about brewing.
The North American Organic Beer Fest (NAOBF) will be taking place at
Overlook Park, Friday, June 24- 26. Homebrew Exchange will be open
regular hours during the festival.
