Since I afflicted this morning's Vintage Sideband Nut...I mean Net with
the first on-air test of my homebrew 5-tube DSB transceiver today, I
thought you guys might like to see what it looks like.
Please note that I'm still working on the dial calibration (we are
something of a whimsical group!)

And here it is in the "Inverse Bench" orientation as when I checked into
the net...the clip lead heading off to the left is the temporary Kate
Hepburn Eliminator, as it was FM-ing until I moved the VFO power to a
regulated bench supply, which cleared things up. Hopefully the high
voltage zeners I've got coming will allow it to resume the normal
orientation. I'll write up a more detailed description after the
solder has cooled and Kate's ghost has been banished, but it's
essentially a combination of the ideas kicked around a year or so ago,
the "Islander", and my own goofy ideas (such as using the same tube as
the audio and RF power amplifier).

I'm thrilled it was getting out at all, much less all the way (250 mi)
to the World Headquarters of the Vintage Sideband Net in Sturgeon Bay
Wisconsin! I'm playing with solid-state stuff too, but there's nothing
like the combination of high voltages, high impedances, and low power to
keep ones hubris in check ;-)
