to Home Grown Food
After returning from a weeklong vacation to find many pounds of
overgrown green beans, cucumbers and cherry tomatoes, I decided to
take a few bags to the Food Bank on Friday. They told me there
wouldn't be a distribution until Tuesday and that I should bring the
produce to Catholic Charities on Linden (across from New Belgium
brewery) as they have a soup kitchen daily. The folks at Catholic
Charities were super-appreciative and said they would accept produce
any day of the week. I think I will bring the rest of my excess there,
as I know they will be cooked up and eaten. (I am perhaps projecting,
but I worry that people might take the veggies home from the Food Bank
and not get around to actually cooking them up. I have been known to
do this myself, I confess, with produce I've actually paid for!)
For what it's worth,
Sue
