How to add a timer to the Hot water heater

Greetings,

I'd like to add a timer to my hot water heater. The timer would come
on at 5 AM and shut off at 7 AM... Has anyone done this before?...
Please let me know,

I would think that that would be tricky. The tank would loose heat while
off and would take extra time to warm the water before you could use it.
