Hello lurkers,
...this is exactly why I have just bought my last ThinQ device.
It remains to be seen whether the device honors the schedule, if it doesn't, it's even worse than I thought. Will report.
For now, a short summary of ThinQ:
Verdict: unhappy.
Out of the box, available only on mobile devices, even though you must either create an online ThinQ account (a must if you want to ever control it from Open Source applications) or use social media accounts to connect (hard stop in my book). Works only over the Internet - but is not available via a Web browser.
There are several Open Source solutions available for ThinQ integration, none of which work as drop-in for DZ, but since I do now have this device and plan to keep it (ROI is already quite significant during these non-stop heat waves), I'll put together a gateway for it.
Well, if you made it this far, you may be interested to find out that one of the upcoming changes to DZ is a change (or, rather, widening) of focus from working with only big honking HVAC units to working with mini splits and portable units - this will involve some creative process control enhancements :) Stay tuned.
