Dear Friends in Christ,

 

Charles Martin Walker, son of Albert and Helen Martin Walker, was born on September 15, 1926, in Orange, New Jersey. He passed peacefully at the age of 90 on June 17, 2017, of natural causes, in Roswell, Georgia.


Charley grew up in Short Hills, New Jersey, and graduated from Millburn High School in June 1944. Two weeks later be began his studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was drafted into the Army in December 1944, and arrived in Germany on April 30, 1945 – the same day that Adolph Hitler committed suicide. He served in the Army of Occupation in Germany until 1946, and then returned to MIT. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering in 1949, and his Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering in January 1951. For a short time between degrees he taught in the MIT practice schools in Buffalo, New York, and Oakridge, Tennessee. He married Belva Jean Malchow on January 3, 1953, in Chicago, Illinois.  Charley is survived by Belva Walker, his wife of 64 years, children Ann Walker Pruitt and Tom Walker, and grandchildren Alec Pruitt and Nicole Walker. 


The funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 22 at 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.  Belva and the family will visit with friends following the service.
