If you are not able to practise Japa and meditation seated in the prescribed posture, for long periods in the morning and evening, you may do so at other times also, seated or resting in an easy posture, or even reposing in bed if you are not well. Or you may practise sitting up in bed in the small hours of the morning, if you do not feel tired or sleepy. But usually the mind is brought under control much better if Japa and meditation are done properly on a seat, according to the usual directions. You can also practise mentally repeating the Mantra without keeping count of the number, while walking, travelling in a conveyance, or doing some work, in the way of remembrance or recollection of God. But do not meditate at this time, for there is a risk of accident if you are unmindful of your surroundings. Time is invaluable; life is short and uncertain; do not waste a single moment.
