"Hidden under the ashes of apparent death, the fire of our national life is yet smouldering and that the life of this nation is religion, its language religion, and its idea religion; and your politics, society, municipality, plague-prevention work, and famine-relief work – all these things will be done as they have been done all along here , viz only through religion; otherwise all your frantic yelling and bewailing will end in nothing, my friend!"

Swamiji had said that the life of this nation is religion. Nowadays
none of us has the courage to say so because anybody saying so could
even attract criminal charges!! But Swamiji was a rishi and we believe
that Hinduism would ultimately prevail and overcome the series of
insults that the system currently inflicts on it.

Hi,

Here is the link to the Introduction written by the then British Parliamentarian Ramsay McDonald in 1914 (who later became Prime Minister) to the book "Fundamental Unity of India" by Radhakumud Mookerji.

http://books.google.com/books?id=_0x5pkIfsV4C&lpg=PA37&ots=ldYP_qbBrs&dq=fundamental%20unity%20of%20india%20radha%20kumud%20mookerji&pg=PA17

In the introduction, Ramsay McDonald says: "A Hindu considers India as an outward embodiment of his spiritual culture. India and Hinduism are organically related as body and soul." These are the words of a British Prime Minister before freedom!!!

I highly recommend the small book for reading by anyone interested in Indian History. The book was published originally in 1914 and then reedited by the author in 1954 after Freedom, Partition, etc. The book is published by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. I am not sure if it is still in publication. It should be available in most old libraries and may be available in old book shops. (I have bought two copies of the book so far and both were from old book shops. :) )

With regards,
Gomu.
