Face the brutes

There are a few fortunate souls who are lucky enough to attain success
without pitfalls; the rest have to pass through the hurdles and
difficulties. But the real hero is who welcomes challenges in life and
faces them with boldness and courage.Such a person crossing all the
hurdles comes out successfully like a lion. The following incident
took place during Swami Vivekananda's wandering days, when he was
staying at varanasi. It conveys a profound message to the world. One
day, while returning from the Durga temple, Swamiji was chased by some
monkeys. To save himself,Swamiji started running, but the monkeys ran
still faster and grew increasingly aggressive.Meanwhile, an old monk
who was witnessing the scene called out to him: 'Stop running.Face the
brutes.' Swamiji heard his call and turned to 'face the brutes.'
Swamiji drew a great lesson from this incident. He learnt that one
should not run away, when faced with danger or difficulty; and
instead, one must face it boldly. In his later life, addressing a
gathering in New York,he said; 'That is a lesson for all life-face the
terrible, face it boldly.Like the monkeys, the hardships of life fall
back, when we cease to flee before them. We have to face fear and
troubles and ignorance, if we expect them to flee before us.

Respected Devotees/Anbuji,
Nameshkar,

If the mind overtakes the intellect, it exaggerates and magnifies a small problem into a big one and creates a fear in us .Mind is like a monkey.  When a old sadhu told Swamiji,' Ye . Stop running. Face the brute", Swamiji did the same and the monkey ran away.  It is the same with the mind.  More we fear, it chases more and more as in the case of Monkey.  When intellect takes  control over the situations and turns back , the same mind loses its effect.  Now the problem does not go physically.  But what is happening is: what was previously seen as very big will appear to be small as soon as it sees the very sight of intellect.

That is the reason what is problem to somebody under certain conditions and situations is not a problem to another person under the same conditions and situations because he live in different strength

In this connection, I am giving below the following Islamic Sufi story, which conveys the above mental state.

Sufi's story as to un-shakeable Faith of Allah in Islam.

A marriage party was travelling in a ship.  At the middle of the sea, the boat started shaking due to heavy storm.  Everybody,  out of panic, started running here and there.  Seeing Mullah Nasseerullah not affcted by this event, his wife asked him," how do you  maintain calmness even in this situation?'.   Immediately, he took a sharp knife and approached her to stab.  Seeing her wife not afraid, he asked her," what made you not afraid by my act of stabbing?'.  She replied,' even though the knife is very sharp, I know very well the hand in which it is there will not do any harm".  Hearing that Mullah Nasseerullah replied to her earlier question,  He said," Even though it is a big storm, I know it is a play of Allah.  He cannot bring this to harm me.  Hence,  I was not afraid"

Final analysis:

1) Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible and receives the impossible!

2)  That real Faith comes with the regular practice of Jnana, bakthi , karma, dharna and meditation

Thanks with regards,
R. Parameswaran.
