For me the Lord is always in my heart.  We are all walking temples. So the image becomes holy because each one of us goes and stands before the image and projects the same form of God that is in our hearts that we are experiencing, that we want to see, on to the idol. We look at Him and gain peace, confidence and solace and come back with the same God intact in the heart.
