The guru connects us to the divine through the mantra. That mantra we repeat everyday, and by doing this we pay back the debt to the teacher for connecting us to God. We must do this every day. The benefit of this will go to the guru. If you do only 108 times, all that will go to the Guru. If you do 110 times, you will only get the benefit of only two.
