EXTRACTS FROM LETTERS OF SWAMI GAHANANANDAJI
(From the letters provided by a monk, a disciple of Revered Swami Gahananandaji)
12 April 2002
Dear daughter ...,
Your letter of 21st March had reached here on 30th March. You are continuing with the process of Meditation-Japa as per the regulations given in the instructions of worship – apart from this, on other occasions too, practice doing the Japa of your Ishta-Mantra every moment. And along with that observe how your mind starts thinking about other things leaving the Japa aside – but do not stop it (the mind) – let it think whatever it thinks – only you observe what it is thinking. Then you see how it gets into the habit of doing Japa – again going astray, again (coming back to) doing Japa. This way you will get familiar with the nature of your mind, get familiar with the good and bad tendencies of your mind. Then you will realize all those desires, passions, wishes, ambitions – that you want to fulfill. Then you will see which all things, people, objects, talks for you have hatred, which things make you upset, which make you happy, and in which things you have weaknesses – which are those things, weaknesses which people can exploit, can misuse, and knowing your weaknesses can even get some wrong things done from you – you will get familiar with all these. Keep practicing this after your examination and write to me after one month – send me a photocopy of this letter along with that. But do not allow anyone else except your mother and father to read it. I am always coaxing the Master (Sri Ramakrishna) for you.
Ever you well-wisher,
Swami Gahanananda
