Hi there,

“OM – Purnamadah Purnamidam Purnat purnamudachyate.
Purnasya Purnamadaya Purnamevavashisyate.”

meaning,

“That is whole, this is whole, from whole comes out of whole.
If Whole is subtracted from whole, still whole is left.”

‘Whole’ can be replaced as ‘infinity’ also. ‘That and this’ refers to OM.

I have no problem understanding the above. The problem comes when someone says that the above is supported by mathematics and goes on to say that "infinity minus infinity is infinity"

This I read in the Internet and heard several times including at a RK Centre. I think purpose was to sound smart and prove that the old mantra is being echoed by the latest mathematics even as Swamiji had said "...the modern science seems like echo of the findings of the Rishis..." at the Word Parliament.

This is not only wrong but stupid also. Wrong, because in mathematics infinity minus infinity is "indeterminate" and not necessarily "infinity". Stupid, because the infinity of mathematician is a large number but not the same as the infinity of the Rishis.

I think the best explanation of the sloka is Thakur Himself - He came from Whole (undivided God) but still He is Whole, and what remained after He, the Whole came was still Whole.

Any takes thanks.

Respected Utpalji,

I think you should look at your writings little more closely and think twice before sending it in group!!!!

I have strong objection to your words... "This is not only wrong but stupid also." I think anyone with least knowledge of language also will understand the gravity of these words, because not only YOU ARE QUESTIONING WHAT IS SPOKEN IN "RK CENTERS" but YOU ARE QUESTIONING OR RATHER COMMENTING ON "SWAMIJI'S WORDS"!!!!

I am sure your intention must not be what it appears while reading these sentences in succession, "as Swamiji had said "...the modern science seems like echo of the findings of the Rishis..." at the Word Parliament.
This is not only wrong but stupid also.

Apart from everything else SUCH WORDS LIKE "STUPID" or "BLASPHEMY" (I remember reading this word in one of your earlier mails) are UNPARLIAMENTARY IN NORMAL SENSE and specially IN THIS HOLY GROUP OF DEVOTEES OF HOLY TRIO.

Everyone has a RIGHT TO HAVE HIS OR HER OPINION AND EVEN TO QUESTION THAKUR, MAA and SWAMIJI'S STATEMENTS but he or she should express it very very CAREFULLY or rather NOT EXPRESS IT AT ALL.

I am extremely sorry and disturbed to have written this mail and as ALL OTHER SENIOR DEVOTEE MEMBERS WILL TESTIFY, THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE WRITTEN SUCH A STRONG WORDED MAIL IN GROUP.

Most of the times I am not able to express my PERSONAL VIEW OR OPINION just because Res. Somesh Maharaj (who started this group under the guidance and express wish of Most Rev. Swami Gokulanandaji Mj.) had passed on this responsibility to moderate this HOLY GROUP.

I hope you will appreciate my point of view and please pardon me if I have misunderstood your words.

Sincerely

a devotee of DEVOTEES OF HOLY TRIO

Adarneeya Maharajjis & Matajis,

Please keep giving your blessings and guiding us through this holy medium with timely emails and instructions.

a devotee

Bharat Babu,

I do not appreciate your point of view but pardon you because you completely misunderstood my words.

Athough Parliament is a democratic institution and not a hierarchical order, you are the moderator of this group and I hereby accept the decision.

Yours in Thakur

Dear Utpal Babu,

How can you use a word "Stupid"? What are you trying to prove on Swamijis words?? Do we have that magnitude and gamut of wisdom to know the depth of His words??

This kind of expressions should be banned IN THIS HOLY GROUP OF DEVOTEES OF HOLY TRIO! I completely support Bharatji.

If I may make a suggestion: let us have self-moderation and thoughtfulness in our words and actions rather than censorship.

This has been a very active and dynamic mailing list and it would be unfortunate if this changed.

Best regards,

Dear All,
I think there is some mis-understanding regarding this matter. When I first read Utpal's mail I did not find anything objectionable. I read again today after so many objections have been raised and Utpal's clarification on this issue. He never challenged what Swamiji said. He has challenged the wisdom of scientific community particularly the Mathametician who wanted to show their smartness comparing with Swamiji's saying. Swamiji is quoted out of context here and no meaning should be made out of what he said in that line. It is just an example. (To understand Swamiji's message one has to have a high level of intellect. Many of his talks are full of scientific truths and all what he said are interpretation from our scriptures. His lectures were to the westerners who would not accept religious teachings unless told in scientific language.) Therefore, I do not find that Utpal has criticized Swamiji. He has clearly clarified in subsequent sentence that the adjective stupid belongs to Mathameticians whose infinity is in numbers.
Therefore, I humbly request the members to treat this issue as closed and not exchange further mails on this.

Best regards

Tirtha

Respected Tirthaji,

Saadar Pranaam.

First of all let me apologise for raising this issue. But still I will like to clarify few things.

The fact is ENGLISH LANGUAGE DEFINITELY HAS SOME LIMITATIONS, as per my opinion.

Secondly, apart from the word STUPID ( OK, I accept your point that he did not meant it for Swamiji's statement, but for mathematicians! Shri Utpalji could very well have clarified this point and everything would have been over.) and also the word BLASHPHEMY were used in his mails and it is definitely not appropriate to use such remarks for someone elses view be it Devotee of Holy Trio or Mathematician.

Still if you feel that I have done this act of raising this issue I apologise from bottom of my heart to you as well as Shri Utpalji and request all other Devotees to consider this matter closed.

Dear Bharatji, Tirthaji and Utpalji,

We have had the great fortune to be in touch with great devotees through this group. Besides so many householder sadhaks, there are also Maharajjis and Matajis who constantly guide us in our path. It is tempting to write one's inner feelings, but I think a blog would be more appropriate for that. Utpalji, please try to refrain from writing emails that create discomfort to devotees. Bharatji's stance was very appropriate. We all follow a certain etiquette in this group, and as family members, we all should support and follow it.
