Respected Girish ji,
You share the first name of our Girish Babu. I am so fortunate to receive your mail. I am marking it to our group so that others can also share it with me. Please continue sending the remaining 9 columns. I want to ask you one question. Many refer Girish Ghosh as a sinner. But we do not find that in his life. He suffered a lot and lost faith in God. He was a social worker and used to help the people in his neighborhood. Visiting some places or drinking habits do not make one a sinner. Did he kill anyone - No. Did he cheat anyone - No. Did he committed robbery - No. Did he misbehave with ladies - No. Then what did he do to be called a sinner. Probably the term 'sinner' was coined by himself. I personally if at all he committed a mistake, it was insulting Sri Ramakrishna. But Sri Ramakrishna did not mind for that so he did not receive any sin for this.

Thanking you
With best regards

Tirthankar Mitra

Om RamaKrishna.
Dear Tirthankar ji:  Namaskar.
By the grace of Sri RamaKrishna and Girish Ghosh, I have written 10 columns on the book of Swami Chetananandaji Maharaj. You don't have to read the columns in sequence. I am sending the 10th column. I hope you will receive it and like it. If you are interested, please let me know and I would send you the remaining 9 columns.

I read your message on the Web site of "Devotees of Holy Trio". I am not its member. I hope I got your E-mail address right and this column reaches you.

Best wishes,
Girish Parikh

Part 10:
"GIRISH CHANDRA GHOSH: A Bohemian Devotee of Sri Ramakrishna" --
Quotes, Notes & Reflections
(WIDER HORIZONS Weekly: 2009-43)

"People often say that the Master [Sri Ramakrishna] produced Vivekananda. Is that not his wonderful glory? ... let me tell you that the greatest proof of the Maser's glory is not Vivekananda -- it is I -- because Vivekananda was a great receptacle."
                                         --Girish Chandra Ghosh (Page 451).

--When Swami Vivekananda passed away on July 4, 1902, Girish lamented: "Naren, you were supposed to live and spread the glory of the Master by telling people the story of my transformation. ..." (Page 352).

Now Swami Chetananandaji has told the story of Girish's transformation with the grace of the Master.
I have a suggestion to the filmmaker who the Master will select for making the world class film on Girish Ghosh based on Swami Chetananandaji's book: Please dedicate the to film to Swami Vivekananda.

--"Sri Ramakrishna went on another occasion to see Girish's performance at the Star theater. He gave him a rupee since he did not want to see it for free. Putting the money on his head, Girish began to dance. He regarded it as prasad from the Master and preserved it in his shrine." (Page 389).

Indeed, it was divine appreciation by the Master of Girish's art. And blessed was the rupee which was touched by the Master and lovingly given to Girish.

--"[The play] Chaitanya Lila was Girish's naivedya, an offering of worship, and he reached God through it. ..." (Page 390).

As I mentioned in an earlier column, a three-hour epic feature film can be created on the life of Sri Chaitanya. Girish's plays on Sri Chaitanya can inspire and provide material for such a film.

--Girish wrote to M., the recorder of The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna, after reading its three volumes: "... Kathamrita [The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna] has been my very existence during my protracted illness for the last three years... You deserve the gratitude of the whole human race to the end of time." (Pages 393-394).

--Girish reveals that "The only way to worship him [Sri Ramakrishna] is to call on him by repeating his holy name." (Page 418).

The above is the quote from minutes of the Ramakrishna Mission. The minutes also reveal the sharp mind of Girish as he wonderfully answers the questions asked to him.
This material is one example of Swami Chetananandaji diligent research in writing this book.

--In a meeting of the Ramakrishna Mission, Girish revealed: "The life and teachings of Sri Ramakrishna are most appropriate for
this age. ..." (Page 420).

Indeed, Sri Ramakrishna is the Incarnation of God for the modern age. (Girish used to call Sri Ramakrishna an Incarnation of God.)

--We learn from Mrs. Gray Hallock's reminiscences how the name G.C. for Girish Chandra came about. She writes: "I saw only G.C. as he liked to be called because Vivekananda had so dubbed him." (Page 433).

The above is another reason for naming the film on Girish Chandra G.C. (not GC), and dedicating it to Swami Vivekananda.

--The incident described on Page 435 reminded of a similar event in the life of Gandhi which was featured in the film. Gandhi was attending a meeting and a boy comes reminding him that he had promised to treat his goat. Gandhi leaves the meeting telling that he has to take care of the goat and goes with the boy.
Our hero Girish knew homeopathy and when a messenger came to him asking to help a patient he would leave a meeting and go with the messenger.

The above incident in the life of Girish has a human touch like many events in his life, and should be included in the film G.C.

--Mrs. Gray Hallock narrates a humorous incident in the life of Girish (Page 436). While eating an European lunch with Mrs. Hallock, Girish was awkward with the use of fork, and her Mohammedan servant prompted to Girish in Bengali from behind how to use fork.

Well, Girish -- the great director that he was -- needed to be directed! Of course this will be a hilarious scene in the film G.C.

--"Like a drama in itself, the story of his miraculous transformation has traveled from person to person, place to place, and country to country. His acting, writing, love for art, compassion for the poor and the fallen, and above all, his faith in his guru, have made him immortal." (Page 465).

And by the grace of Sri Ramakrishna, the film G.C., primarily based on the immortal book of Swami Chetananandaji, will make Girish Ghosh and Sri Ramakrishna known word wide.

--In concluding this series of columns, let me quote from the concluding paragraph of the book:

"At the beginning of the book, Girish is shown introducing himself as a sinner. Towards the end of his life, Girish is saying [to a Swami who visited him], 'The Master made me a god. He transformed me through love and not by scolding. How can I express his love? When you see me [and from my life], you will get faith and understand what the Master was. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu delivered Jagai and Madhai. They were two villains, but compared to me they were nothing! The Master gave shelter to a horrible sinner like me. [And probably he joked], If I had known that there was such a large dustbin to dump all my sins in, I would have enjoyed more pleasures in my life. [Then Girish said seriously], Look at me, I am Ramakrishna's miracle!' "

I am truly blessed that Swami Chetananandaji Maharaj, (the author of the book: GIRISH CHANDRA GHOSH: A Bohemian Devotee of Sri Ramakrishna), has given me opportunity to write about his monumental work.
