Guru Purnima – 11

 

The Bhagavad Gita says,

तद्विद्धि प्रणिपातेन परिप्रश्नेन सेवया |

उपदेक्ष्यन्ति ते ज्ञानं ज्ञानिनस्तत्त्वदर्शिन: || 

                                                    (Bhagavad Gita 4:34)

 

We don’t go to the teacher and say, ‘Give me knowledge.’  तद्विद्धि प्रणिपातेन - We bow down at his feet, I place myself at the feet of the Guru. The disciple is asked to approach the guru with firewood in hands. That is symbolic.  Offering the faggots and taking refuge at Thy feet, I know you will burn away my ignorance to ashes.
