One day Narada wanted to test how Krishna was keeping all his sixteen thousand and eight wives in peace. He went to one palace and saw Sri Krishna just come after hunting and resting there. In another house he was in the swimming pool, in the next one he was holding a serious political discussion in a huge durbar. If he could do that he can have not just sixteen thousand and eight but millions and millions of wives. The Swami Ranganathananda interprets that as, ‘The one divine Self that dwells in all - in you and me.’
