Dear Dwaipayanji:

You may or may not be correct in stating that Missionaries are into coversion. That was not the point in these slides. The presentation slides enclosed by Guhaji are just talking about love, giving, god, etc. I dont think any religion preaches anything but these. Let us get into the depth of these ideas and progress on the path of self- realisation instead of focussing on personalities and their motives. In my opinion, Guhajee circulated the presentation to convey the idea of love, self-less giving and hence enlarging ourselves.

Mother Teresas may be needed in the country till we ourselves don't start giving back to the Society and stop being in the category of 'TAKERS'

Regards

Thank God!

Dwaipayanji very thoughful of you for bringing forth the 'Fact' on the platform.. My Personal Congratulations and Thanks!
I was urged many times to put forth the same but let go off as i was in no mood for any discussions.. !!

I had been an admirer of Mother Theresa till some years back when i learnt of her role in the conversion issue. So naturally, initially i was very hurt (for some time) as it was not easy to see the person whom i'd felt deeply for, in that light. But thanks to my Gurus who helped me see the other side and I accepted Facts. And then no inner conflicts about it Rather some good lessons....
One thing i learnt to do in my journey / process in this case, i learnt to sieve & pick-up Useful and Relevent substance for myself (from where ever / whom so ever) and relate just to the 'spirit'. eg. in this case there is much to learn about their spirit of dedication and 'ability to transcend' at higher levels - to achieve the Goal.
As is her saying -
"I try to give poor people for love what the rich could get for money.
No, I wouldn't touch a leper for a thousand pounds; yet I willingly cure him for the love of God."

I have been raising the conversion issue for quite sometime now, despite opposistion and arguments as I feel deeply about it - esp. with regards to Ethics.
But I also thank God for all the learning that is being put ahead.. only if we are able to Recognize, Pay Attention and Pick the Right stuff and and Use it in 'Our Context' to the Best of our Abilities.

Nice that the subject is brought-up.

'God bless..

Best Regards
Manisha

Dear Dwaipayanji,

Nameshkar,

The same Vivekannda only has written on 'Christ'.  When we see any religions, why should we see the bad elements of that religions.  When I see Islam, why should I see Osama Bin Laden, and some fanatic Mullahs, who insticate innocent people? I should see 'Allah' and  what the Great Islamic Masters like Sufi mystic says.  In the same way, when i see Christianity, I should focus on  Father in Heaven and Christ messages.  When one of the Christian misionery people were preaching about Christ messages to poor Hindus with he motivation of conversion, Swami Vivekananda sarcastically  said to them,' Ye, what are you doing? They are in empty stomach.  You are preaching the highest messages of Chist to them.  Nothing will  go into their mind.  First feed them and then preach.".  They thought that it is the better way of doing  without understanding his sarcastic way of talking.

So Many missionaries may be like that where their motive is to convert people  But when we see things a they are , we may not develope hatred towards individual saints like Mother Terasa.  In fact if you look at things as they are, you will find fault lies with our people in our society .  We are responsible for that to happen.  We created wrong understanding  of caste system and start neglecting and branded our own people in our religions as 'Low caste' and 'Un-touhable' etc.,The individuals who are affect by that humilation starts thinking to go to other religions where they gain equal respect and  dignity.  The root cause lies with us.

Thanks with regads,
R. Parameswaran

Dear Dwaipayanji:

I completely agree with Parameswaranjee.  It is correct that Missionaries have a double agenda and during british period times this did lots of harm to our country. But we are also responsible a large extent for this. Our caste system, as brought out in vedas, has been convenienly misintrepreted for the benefit of few classes and that has caused so much of misery and inequality and money based priveleges to certain sections of the society. Swamijee did give angry and strong statements against the ways of missionaries working but he had realised brahman and he was a Jnani. He was beyond hatred and other such human emotions and hence he could resort to the ways. we are very much human and hence bound to get misled by misplaced hatred. I think, our aim and purpose of life is realisation of god and serving our country/countrymen/humanity with 'sarvatam' bhave.

Best regards

Rachna

I agree that Missionaries in our country have taken the advantage of the poverty and education, they have always targeted the poor people, they give give them food, clothings and education free and medical aid. What more do the poor people  want?  If they are getting all these things what is the the problem. We Hindus are responsible for the situation, what are we doing  to make sure that our poor people do not even think of changing of their religion. If the basic  needs are met  then why will  they do it? If the rich and moneyed  people  who can  afford  to spare some money, give or support  some poor  family  then  I am  sure  they  will not think of changing of their religion. But in our country who ever think of this. The rich are more interested in making  money thats  all.  See, what is happing with the cricketer. They are purchasing  they  for  corers of rupees. Their only aim is to make more money.
Even the poor will like to fulfill their basic needs and if they can get these things by changing their religion then why not?  -  Purnendu Mukerjee

we cant afford our lives at the cost of religion
here is onr real incident....
swami gokulanandaji maharaj was secretary of shillong mission.
he often visited cherrapunji center also which is 6 hours from shillong. he did a lot for khasi tribe of shillong.
basically there are 2 tribes one is khasi and the other is jayantia.
the jayantia people are hindus but khasis are converted christians.
gokulanandaji translated kathamritam into khasi and mixed so much with the khasi people that he almost learned the khasi language which had no connection with bengali( and therefore was tough to leran).
but the fathers (missionaries) couldnot tolerate this and tried to kill him by placing time bomb in the room where he was supposed to sleep.fortunately he dint sleep that night in that room . on another ocassion poisonous arrows were shot at him by the tribals but they couldnot harm him. SRISRITHAKUR saved him.then belurmath transferred him to delhi mission.when the news of his demise reached cherrapunji, many khasi people were crying ...they loved him so much.

Yes, I also heard the same from him.
But his reverance 4 Jesus, Bible never shaken, many times I
accompanied him to different churches in Delhi also he used to invite
regularly the Arch bishop of Delhi, Daughters' of Saint paul, Dr. M D
Thoms n sisters of church in our Christmas Eve Celebration.
From bombay he purchased Mother Theresa's works in 3 volumes also used
to take classes 4 brothers on some such selected books.
Acc. to him all these mishappenings mentioned by you were nothing but
jealousy to his divine virtues n His dyanamic work among Khashis and
see they could not harm him. STRANGE.
So if somebody is really sincere in his spiritual journey these things
will give more dependence n surrendor on almighty.
If u meet the Arch bishop of Delhi, Daughters' of Saint paul n Dr. M D
Thomas (who also came to attend his memorial meeting held in Mission)
will share their memoirs with great regards n even wid tears.
Regards,
br. Muktachaitanya

Just a few words before i take leave from the platform for some days -
Indeed Mother Theresa did some phenomenal work and made a difference in many a rejected lives..
But was it 'only' for the love of people? - one of the very fundamentals' of 'selfless service'. The answer is No! she had an agenda as well.
So the work is Not 'Selfless Service'.
Her coming to this country or where ever, at any stage of her life, leaving whatever.. doesn't make her work 'selfless'.
As the word says, 'selfless' is with 'no self agenda', 'just service'!!!!

Yes the missionaries have done much for the needy, but is that all they have done? Just, helped /& served?
Also what about targeting the educated and elite crowds of society..?!! What service do they need to provide there?!!!
They are spread all over the world, trying whatever means they can employ to convert. Service as it looks is one suce tool!
Please try and do some info and data collecting on this and you may be startled.

Remember, it is not only the End but also the 'Means' (the Intent and Process / Method) of any action - esp. service, that matters Unquestionably!!

'Serving for the sake of Serving Alone' is Pure and Potent!! Rest is some game or another. Yes maybe even business!!

If someone helps one in need - 'taking advantage' of the later's weakness, would we call it pure helping? Can he/she (helping one) be taken as 'Friend'. NO!! But if someone just helps one in need without any issues /& agendas, without any expectations, 'JUST FOR LOVE IN HIS/HER HEART'Not - Love for this or that ('coz that will make it 'conditional', that will create an 'agenda') he/she is surely worthy of been taken as a 'person of high inner stature' and a 'true friend'.

So, sincere namaskaars to the efforts of some of these people who served and ar serving, but please don't ignore the Intent!! the Agenda!!
Christ or Mohammad or 'else are not the issue here!! It's the followers, the 'Servers' with  their 'packages' - of 'actions and intentions'!! That's It!!

And for us - Most Importantly - We need to Learn Lessons from our shortcomings and mistakes, and Pick-up Lessons from the other side, to our advantage, for our best.
Period !!

Dear friends:

There is much debate going on related to Missionaries and efficacy of the work on this forum. One school of thought is of the view that Missionaries may have done good work but with wrong intentions whereas others feel that doing good work is itself OK. I think we are entering into an arena where we are questioning other person's intention and his/her reasons for being in social service. All of us do the work as per our faith, shradha, beleif system and what we feel is good or bad. If we look into the faults of others and at the same time also appreciate his/her work, I think purpose is not served. Another purpose that gets defeated in this approach is that we develop negative thoughts and this will affect our progress. The second is more important for a 'devotee'. Maa said that dont look fault in others. There is a very deep meaning into it. What we find ourside is inside us. We need to be careful of the negativity that we see outside.

Let Mother Teresa and her organisation do her work, let us do ours and be of service to others with a pure 'sarvatma' bhav, Thats it. I think solution lies in doing and then be with that.

I hope I have not crossed my limits but I feel that some times fanatism obstructs our growth/progress and we all have joined together on this forum with the sole objective of learning and growing in our spiritual progress.

Best Regards

Rachna

Dear all
I got some hours to get on the inet' before i take a leave. Thanks to Maa-Thakurji.
Now bout the very significant subject being discussed at present - 'conversion'.

There is much debate going on related to Missionaries and efficacy of the work on this forum. One school of thought is of the view that Missionaries may have done good work but with wrong intentions whereas others feel that doing good work is itself OK. DISCARDING INTENTIONS? DISCARDING MOTIVES? DISCARDING ANY AGENDAS? I think we are entering into an arena where we are questioning other person's intention and his/her reasons for being in social service. All of us do the work as per our faith, shradha, beleif system and what we feel is good or bad. OK so how is it if some one serves your child for your shortcoming / mistake and does the best to take this 'helpless / needy / poor' fellow in his/her fold, breaking away from his/her family, breaking from the roots, stripping-off the person's culture, religion, identity?? (Here, I am not even metioning the 'coversion' exercises amonst the educated, well to do, classes as well, What is the 'service' they need to provide there?)
Is taking advantage of someone's weakness - Ethical? How can the work package be taken as 'good'??!! And not be questioned!! Is 'good' - minus ethics / values. Yes values - Universal Value System! Same for all!! No distinctions of religion, belief system, faith, country, gender, status (all planes), etc, etc..
What is 'VIVEKA BUDDHI'? - DISCRIMINATION! & NOT 'seeing faults'!
Please mark, there is a big and significant difference between the two.
Seeing faults brings Fananticism, blind faith, looking down upon every thing of the other and finally - PRESSURE TO CHANGE / CONVERT the other!!
Whereas, In Discrimination, one rises above personal feelings and agendas, and sees facts just the way they are.. one recognizes the truth and attends to it accordingly. Truth in totality.
eg. in this case, to be able to see everything of the other side as well as of one's own side..

~ Of the other side - the work as well as intent, methodologies etc.
Of this side - our weaknesses (shortcomings & mistakes), our strengths (important for us to revive and rehabilitate).

So if you note, it is Not seeing faults rather, it's seeing each component of the exercise, each content of the package - singularly as well as collectively to be able to make required corrections, improve and do our best by strengthening ourselves.. Living a quality life as a Hindu! or whatever'.. Without doing any damage nor letting it happen to us.
So rather not being able to see each component clearly and understand, is loosing the purpose, esp. as a Saadha(/i)ka.
'Viveka' - a mandatory quality each one of us (esp. as spiritual aspirants) needs to possess, to win the purpose of life's journey. EVOLUTION.

Let Mother Teresa and her organisation do her work, let us do ours and be of service to others with a pure 'sarvatma' bhav, Thats it. I think solution lies in doing and then be with that.
Let us get out of our slumber, get out of our comfort zones - self centered desire-driven zones, Love Unconditionally, strengthen our value systems and finally make a difference in lives.
' Let us not do any damage to another, Nor Let any damage be done further to us on any plane.. ' Let us keep Awake and Alert - lest whatever left  is also lost!!

I hope I have not crossed my limits but I feel that some times fanatism obstructs our growth/progress and we all have joined together on this forum with the sole objective of learning and growing in our spiritual progress.
Best regards
Manisha

Hi,

The church teaches and the followers of the church sincerely believe "Christ is the only way". So, with all good
intentions they try to bring everyone into the fold of the church. It is true that this creates a lot of discord in the
society. It is true that some people who are after power and money use this to cater to their personal greed.
I feel the devotees are not to be blamed. It is the church as an institution that has to relook at their assumptions
and theology. The learned people who are the heads of churches at various levels should reinterpret the holy
scriptures.

Jesus said "I am the only way. Come to me. Accept me. I will take away all your sins. Dont worry." Krishna
also said the same - "sarva dhaarmaan parityajya maam ekam sharanam vraja. aham tvaam sarva paapebhyo
mokshaishyaami maa suchaha" What both of them said is identical. When they said "I am the only way", they
told it against the ritual ridden religion controlled by selfish priests that had corrupted the "true" spirituality. Both
of them denounced the blind following of rituals towards worldly ends. They advocated a spiritual life with God
as the goal. This is what they both meant by "I am the way."

During the past and present, several people in all parts of the earth, including India, have tried quite successfully
to mislead the society by pitching the words of Christ, Krishna, etc against other paths to God. There has been a
lot of fights between Saivites, Vaishnavites, Shaktas, Buddhists, Jains, etc till recently in India. Now it is being used
by the church and some people involved with the churches. In future also these words will be misused by people.
Selfish people will try to utilize all the means available to cater to their greed, including religion.

With regards,
Gomu.
