Pearls of Wisdom
12-March
In North India Lord Subrahmanya is known as Kumara because He did not marry. The story is that he wanted to marry and went to his father Shiva to seek permission. Shiva was in deep meditation so he stood there for a long time waiting for his father to open his eyes. At last Shiva opened his eyes and said, “Well, my boy what do you want?” Then Subrahmanya said that he wanted to marry. Shiva pointed to some writing on the wall – ‘Tomorrow’ and closed his eyes. Subrahmanaya went back and came again the following day and waited for Shiva to open his eyes. Shiva opened his eyes and asked, ‘What do you want? Subrahmanya repeated his wish and once again Shiva pointed to the writing on the wall –“Tomorrow”. Tomorrow never comes, so Subrahmanya remained kumara!
