Dear Devotees,
I collected the meaning of Om Hrim Ritam from various sources and compiled them together for the benefit of the devotees. Hope you will find it useful. Like Gita, this hymn composed by Swamiji requires Bhasyakara to explain.

Hari Om Ramakrishna

Dear Devotees,

Pranam,

Swamiji says "sthapakaya ca dharmasya...". Now, Vedanta (and Hinduism) is what is associated with Sri Ramakrishna. However, He did not establish Vedanta as a religion just like none of the previous Avatars including Sri Chaitanya established Hinduism, they were all Hindus, as against Jesus or Buddha who established new religions.

Swamiji must have meant some thing else as "religion", may be universalizing of religion itself as the new religion - who will tell?.

Pranam Utpalji.

I found this in the book "Pathways to Joy" about what Swamiji said about religion

"If there is ever to be a universal religion, it must be one that will have no location in place or time, one that will be infinite, like the God it will preach; one whose sun will shine upon the followers of Krishna and of Christ, on saints and sinners alike, one that will not be Hindu or Buddhist, Christian or Muslim,Jewish or Jain, but the sum total of all these, with infinite space for development, and one that with its catholicity will embrace in its infinite arms every human being, from the lowest to the highest. It will be a religion that will have no place for persecution or intolerance in its polity, that will recognize divinity in every man and woman, and whose whole scope, whose whole force, will be centered in aiding humanity to realize its own true divine nature."

Regards,
Rita

Dear Ms. Basumallick and Devotees

Pranam,

If I may be permitted to share a bit of my personal details to eliminate the doubts some in the group may have as regards my faith in Thakur and also expose some more of my ignorance.

I have a picture of Jesus at my work. People ask me as what my religion is and my answer for the last three years has always been the same – “I am a better Christian than most of the Christians” and that is not out of my pride – it is true. To me Jesus is not anyone but Thakur. Why then do some of my posts have the flavor of my anguish against Christianity? Please read the rest of this post to know.

According to Rev. Swami Bhajananandaji Maharaj of Belur Muth, religion can be divided into rituals and spirituality. The former lead to “Dharma, Artha and Kama” while the latter alone leads to “Moksha”. Although a salaried priest by profession, Thakur did not deal with the former; and although He was not against the former, it was pure spirituality that filled His life.

According to the above Swami – all the religions can be divided into the following groups:

1.       Those which say “mine is only right – not yours”

2.       Those which say “everyone is worshipping our lord”. Lord Krishna said this in Gita. Some Christian sects also have the same attitude

3.        Those who enumerate the differences amongst the various religions and

4.       Those who enumerate the commonalities amongst the various religions.

Without going out of His small room (except occasional visits to Calcutta) and without “preaching” Thakur established the 4th one, i.e., “Jato Mot Toto Path” which is not as unique as a concept as much as it is due to the fact that He actually realized it, which is unique in the history of religion. He actually realized the same Truth through other Faiths which is unique amongst all the past Avatars, which called for the maximum manifestation of Divinity – which is why Swamiji called Him the Highest Incarnate.

He actually established a new “religion” unlike the previous incarnates, the new “religion” being that of “spirituality”which is conspicuous by the absence of so called religions and He opened it to the entire humanity for its survival.

The above prelude is required to arrive at two points:

1.       It is not necessary for one to become Christian to revere Jesus or realize the ultimate Truth through Christianity just as it is not necessary for anyone to become a Hindu to realize the Truth of Vedanta. The Christians must stop converting the Hindus by alluring them with financial benefits because it is a disservice to the spirit of Jesus. Swamiji was dead against religious conversion which He named “perversion”. He attributed merit to Ramanuja because He brought the Jains back into their original fold of Hinduism. All these are from His CW.

2.       The only way out for the survival of humanity is through the above “religion” of Jato Mot Tato Path”.

If one reads Swamiji’s words carefully one would notice that that they only refer to spirituality and not religion per se. This is the “religion” Swamiji would have referred to and called Him the highest incarnate for establishing this “religion”.
