On 30 August 1886 Holy Mother left for pilgrimage along with Lakshmi (Sri Ramakrishna's niece )/ Golap-ma, M.'s wife, Kali, Jogin, and Latu. They first stopped at Deoghar to visit the temple of Lord Shiva, and then went to Varanasi. Latu Maharaj met Swami Bhaskarananda, a well-known scholar and monk, who told him: " Don't waste your time roaming about ; sit down in one place and call on Him. Then you are sure to get the Lord's grace."

 At Vrindaban, there were no fixed times for Latu Maharaj's meals. He would come at odd hours to Mother or her companions and ask for something to eat. Sometimes he would feed the monkeys his own bread, and would ask for more food. The other women were undersandably annoyed by this, but the Mother was forgiving and never scolded him for his childlike behaviour. She asked her companions to keep Latu's meals well-covered in a certain place so that he might come at any time and take his meals as he liked. Sometimes Latu would Maharaj would disappear for a few days, which caused anxiety to Holy Mother; but he would appear again and inform her that he had been on the bank of the Jamuna. His unusual manner of living was not controlled by any rules or routine.
