EXTRACTS FROM LETTERS OF SWAMI GAHANANANDAJI
(From the letters provided by a monk, a disciple of Revered Swami Gahananandaji)
Letter 121: Letter to a lady disciple advising her not to forcefully insist on others changing their thinking as per her wishes!
7 November 2001
Daughter ………………,
Your letter dated 27 August reached here on 1 September and second one dated 25 August reached here on 30 August.
You can not give your intellect (your way of thinking) to anyone in this world and moreover you forcefully insist that someone’s way of thinking should be as per your wish – this is just not possible – results of such efforts are never good. Don’t take shelter of this obstinance. Whenever you are alone keep praying to Sri Ramakrishna and Holy Mother with a great yearning. At the same time keep complying with what is expected out of it. – this is your duty. You might be thinking that because of your behaviour it will find its solace and pleasure somewhere else, and this has also been told to you – it might happen that its result may not be good.
Clearly see the nature of this world – this means look at the nature of your mind, your “impressions” make yourself aware of these. Be peaceful and keep observing the tendencies of your mind. When it becomes pitch dark in the night – that very moment the dawn starts – remember this. I keep praying to Sri Ramakrishna for your well-being.
Your solitary well-wisher,
Swami Gahanananda
