Just now I got a call from my cousin who is attending training at Infosys Mysore campus. She said 2 of her batch mates (one boy - one girl) committed suicide due to job pressure. Another girl who cut her vein has been admitted to hospital.
My cousin, 21, joined Infosys last Decemeber. She was asked to attend the training at their Mysore campus. She said they have tests everyday, for which they have to maintain at least 65% marks to survive a dismissal threat. This high work pressure is taking a toll on the trainees. She said she wants to quit this job and return at any cost.
More Details on Suicide
Victim 1 - Girl
This girl was from Patna . Though a rank holder from Patna University , she somehow couldn't make a mark at Infy. She failed for 3 major tests consecutively which led her to ending her life by hanging from the room ceiling fan.
Victim 2 - Guy
This North Indian guy was actually one of the better trainees in the lot. But the failure at a major test threatened his Infy career seriously. On closer look he realised that some of his answer sheets were not properly marked by the person in charge. He noticed that he was missing nearly 20 marks due to the carelessness of the staff who corrected his paper. He took this issue to the higher authorities. They confirmed there was indeed a miscalculation, but they were firm on the stand that they cannot correct the mark sheet as that would bring a bad name to the Mysore campus. Disappointed by this verdict, the guy took poison.
Victim 3 - Girl (attempted suicide)
Again a case of failure in multiple tests, she could not accept the fact that she might have to return home unemployed. That made her cut the vein, but seeing blood she got terrified and called for help. Now admitted at hospital and has survived the situation.
My Observations :
This is what I always mentions about the difference between Intelligence and Intellect. The above people who committed suicide or attempt to do the same are all intelligent , highly educated. Since they were working with one of the best I.T companies in India their salary won't be les than Rs. 40,000 . per month. Still you can see the state of affair.
A person may be an highly educated, intelligent, Scientist, or a Management specialist in this physical world, but he may be an utter superstitious, fear individual in dealing with life situations. Whereas a poor , un-educated, well-disciplined person may deal with this world in a better way than that of the previous person because of his strengthened intellect. It has nothing to do with education. Sri Ramakrishna came out of school without even completing his elementary school. It is the same case with Sri Ramana Maharishi, Christ . Kabir who was born to a Brahmin widow , brought up by a muslim weaver in Kasi, does not know read and write except the name of Ram. Same is the case with Prophet Mohammed. Sri Ramakrishna came out of School not because he could not cope up with study. He found that this is not the education which he was looking for . Their aim was trancendental knowledge and not the terrestrial knowledge. Hence their intellect is very strong. Intelleignece even after giving 'Living' , finally took the life of the above Infosys staffs. Whereas Intellect will give Life.
