Swami Adbhutananda
Another brother disciple lisped a few words in continuation of Latu Maharaj's thought and got a snub. Swamiji continued: " Ah, what you call devotion is sentimental non-sense that only weakens man. Who cares for that kind of devotion? I have no faith in that devotion which makes a person so selfish, so busy with his personal liberation, that his heart does not feel for others.... You know, one day I foolishly asked the Master for this kind of devotion and liberation, and he rebuked me and called me selfish and small-minded. Should I be misled by your words? I will work as he has told me." After this , Swamiji burst into tears and left the room. The brother monks realized Swamiji's greatness and why the Master had made him their leader. The next day Latu Maharaj privately told Swamiji: " Brother, I am a fool. Please don't take my words to heart."
