Sikkim Yatra

North-East India

Sikkim: The state of Sikkim is remotely located in North-East India amidst the Kanchenjunga ranges of Himalayas. Far flung from mainland India, Sikkim is endowed with Lord Krishna’s amazing enchanting natural scenic beauty and spectacular views of formidable majestic mountain peaks of Kanchenjunga. It is 100% organic state of India and is bordered by China, Bhutan and Nepal.

ISKCON Sikkim: By mercy of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu, Srila Prabhupada and devotees it is heartening and inspiring that International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) has a Temple in Gangtok, Sikkim’s capital. It is not so easy to preach to locals here, still a small group of devotees live here and perform devotional services for pleasure of Lord Krishna including transcendental book distribution. On Janmastami, over 5000 people, including the state Governor attend the festivities. Devotees from other temples also help.

Hanuman Tok temple: In the upper ranges of Himalayas there is an ancient Hanuman Tok temple. According to the local legends, when Hanuman was flying with Dronagiri Parvat (Mountain) which had the life-saving Herb Sanjeevani to save Lord Rama's brother Lakshmana, he rested in the spot for a moment where this temple now lies. It is located in upper ranges at an altitude of 7,200 ft and on a road that branches off from the Gangtok-Nathula Highway which leads to China. It is at a distance of 11kms from Gangtok, the state capital. Hanuman Tok temple has beautiful dioramas depicting pastimes of Lord Ramacandra. Climb to Hanuman Tok temple as road leads directly to the car park of the temple. From the temple one can also gaze spectacular views and horizons of Himalayan ranges. Besides there are also Buddhist monasteries in Sikkim.

People of Sikkim are generally simple and peaceful. Recently direct flights have started from Kolkata to Pakyong (PYG) airport. One can also take taxi from Siliguri to travel to Gangtok, which will take about 4 hours to reach. Siliguri is in north West Bengal and is well connected from Bagdogra airport by direct flights from Kolkata and rest of India.
