The first book that we will discuss is “Rethinking the Church” by
James White. In this book White looks at whether or not today’s church
is doing what it should in order to reach a postmodern world. There is
tension within the modern church in that, on the one hand, we must
find a way to touch the world in which God has placed us while, at the
same time, not compromise or lower our standards to attack people.
Most of the time when you go to read a book dealing with
postmodernism, it seems they use major stats that say today’s church
is insignificant in relating to today’s culture or they give you a
“how-to” guide which features the latest and greatest fad. Rethinking
the church is different in that White finds a way to be both theory
and practice together. Each chapter deals with a different aspect of
the church and our need to rethink these aspects both Biblically and
practically.

I want to invite you to go on a journey as we look at what we could
be, what we should be. Then ask ourselves, what is holding us back…
