In this chapter White tackles the issue of discipleship. It is here
that many churches need to work on our game plan. In most cases, the
traditional approach of 9:30 Sunday morning is not working. It has to
be more than just “allowing” ourselves to grow but be more intentional
in studying the scripture, finding out what God wants for our lives,
and then doing it. We must be intentional in working with our members
to systematically find ways to broaden our knowledge of Biblical
concepts and teachings, while at the same time, provide an opportunity
for building relationships. We do not talk to people the same way we
did 50 years ago; now we text, email and skype. We do not get
information the same way we did 50 years ago; now we have 100’s of
television channels and the world is at our fingertips through the
internet. Why do we think that discipling people would not change? The
method will most likely change, but the message must never change. Nor
will the need for a strong relationship with others.
