Good Morning on this beautiful spring day! This Saturday, the 11th, we will be gathering at the Woodstock library and spin our cares away. Or, at least, the chill of winter. Hope you are enjoying the weather and are busy planting and enjoying the spring flowers. Take a break and join us Saturday for a social spin.

See you there.

Toni and Al, if you are reading this know that the library is working out well but we really miss you two and the shop!! Hope you are loving your new home.

Subject: Guild meeting this week!

Hello Everyone,
My husband just came home at told me that he has volunteered me to help out next Sunday at Grace Farm. Ann and Mike are planning a move and are having a sale. Ann will be selling her fiber arts equipment that she does not plan to take along when they move. I am not sure what all will be there, but Lar was saying there was a loom, a skein winder a spinning wheel which may be vintage. I am sure there is much more both of fiber related items and misc.

The sale will be on this Sunday, June 2nd from 10am until 4 pm. The address is 2719 Franklinville Rd., Woodstock. Il.

Hope to see some of you there.
Sharon

Hello Everyone,

Our July guild meeting will be a dye day held at the McHenry County Farm Bureau in Woodstock. The address is 1102 McConnell Rd., Woodstock, Il. We will start at our usual time of 10am. Here is a list of items you will need to bring. I will also ask that you let me know if you are going to be able to attend so that I can plan better.

When you presoak your fibers, if you soak them in plain water, that will allow the dye colors to flow a little more. If you presoak in vinegar/water solution the colors will strike faster and not blend as much. You can add 1 cup of white vinegar to a large stock pot of water, or your sink of water. You can soak the yarn the night before if you wish and just leave the damp yarn in your zip lock bag for Saturday. Squeeze the water out of your yarn, don't wring it out.

If you can, weigh your fibers before soaking them. We will use some basic formulas for determining how much dye to use based on the weight of the fiber. Don't worry if you do not have a scale that you can weigh your fiber on, we are not going to be so exact that we can't help you figure out what you need in the way of dye. Also, tie the skein in 3-4 places very loosely. If you tie it tight that will restrict the dye and you will get a white band where the tie was.

THINGS TO BRING

9 X 13 aluminum pans, at least two of them.

1 loaf type pan or small plastic tub that you can set three disposable cups in. I want to do everything we can to prevent a dye spill disaster.

Mask

Each skein of yarn to be presoaked in water or vinegar/water for about a half hour. Then just the damp skein each put into its own zip lock bag. Glad bags are great. They handle the heat the best.

Disposable gloves. An apron is you wish. It really should not be messy though.

Note taking supplies.
