My friend Georges is working on the final survey
for his dissertation (studying how people make
decisions) and he's using a "friends and family"
approach to participant recruitment. Basically,
we're just trying to get this anonymous (20-30min)
survey in front of as many - and as diverse a
population - as possible. The survey does NOT ask
you to make or reveal personal decisions, but
rather asks you to think about how you go about
making decisions - both big and small.
So if you guys have a few minutes to spare in the
next few days, it would be a huge help to him -
and I would consider it a personal favor to me.
Note that if your significant other is also
willing to do it, there is a separate option for
doing the survey as a pair (still anonymous, but
the surveys will be linked in his analysis via an
arbitrary keyword that you both input). Also, if
you can think of any other friends, family, and
colleagues that might be willing to do it, please
send it along. The link provides more details on
the purpose of the study before you begin. Final
notes: please refrain from talking to anyone about
the survey who might subsequently fill it out, as
this can bias their responses. Also, you must be
18 or older to complete the study.
Thanks for considering this! Here's his note along
with the link to the survey:
"Hey Rich,
As you know, I am in the final stages of my
graduate work at the University of Michigan
studying how people decide. For my last study, I
am turning to friends and family and asking them
to participate in my online study, and to spread
the word to others they think would be willing and
able to help. The more participants I have, the
more reliable my results will be.
To participate, just click the link below. I would
also be very grateful if you could forward this
e-mail to friends who you think would be willing
to take 30-45 minutes of their time to help out.
