ThePredator is the third studio album by American rapper Ice Cube. It was released on November 17, 1992, through Lench Mob Records and Priority Records. The album was released just within months of the 1992 Los Angeles riots;many songs comment on racial tensions in the United States. The production on the album was primarily handled by DJ Pooh, Sir Jinx, Torcha Chamba and DJ Muggs. The title is in part reference to the movie Predator 2, and the album itself includes samples from the film.[1]

The Predator was supported by three singles: "It Was a Good Day", "Check Yo Self" and "Wicked". The album received generally positive reviews from critics and was also a commercial success. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 193,000 copies in its first week.[2] The album was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in November 2001.[3]

Elsewhere "We Had to Tear This Mothafucka Up" is directed at the LA Police officers acquitted in the Rodney King trial, an event that ignited the 1992 LA Riots. The similarly themed "Who Got the Camera?" imagines a scenario in which a black man is subjected to police brutality. The songs are broken up by interludes involving interviews with Ice Cube and what appears to be a debate between members of a congregation or talk-show audience.

The album spawned three hit singles: "It Was a Good Day," which was a hit in March 1993; "Check Yo Self"; and "Wicked" (which was later covered by nu metal band Korn featuring Deftones vocalist Chino Moreno rapping the verses with slightly modified lyrics). Both the album and single version of "Check Yo Self" include an appearance from Das EFX, with the latter's single featuring a remix utilizing a sample of Grandmaster Flash's "The Message". The song also received continuous radio and MTV play.

The Predator debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 193,000 copies in its first week.[2] This became Ice Cube's first US number one debut.[2] On November 16, 2001, the album was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for sales of over two million copies.[3] As of January 2003, the album has sold 2.2 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.[15]

In a 2014 interview with rapper and producer Q-Tip, actor Leonardo DiCaprio expresses his admiration for The Predator. He stated that the album was the "magnum opus of Ice Cube's solo career" and it was a "voice for the angry and unheard during the 90s".

In the comedy series Fresh Off the Boat, 11-year old Eddie Huang (Hudson Yang) tries to impress his neighbor and babysitter Nichole (Luna Blaise) with a copy of The Predator featuring a huge Parental Advisory label. She decides to keep his copy after listening to it babysitting him and they end up bonding over it.[17]

I finally have my first real childhood BMX back in my life. I've been looking since 2008 when I got back into the BMX game. I discovered the Museum in 2012, and in March of 2014 I had my bike back (not the actual bike). I made a 3 way deal with two museum members all the way in Hungary which is where this bike came from and was made. It got beat up during shipping, drop out damage and chain stays were smashed in. I'd like to thank Anchor Bay Bike shop for making it right. The whole time I've had it, I've been recovering from a broken foot since early Feb. It's kept my spirits up. It's been kind of hard to work on, but it's done. It's amazing how much money you can put into a bike that only cost $222.72 back in 1992.

Hmmm.....Crafted in the USA with Chinese electronics and tuning machine heads. This 1992 Peavey Predator (USA) received a set of sealed Gotoh style tuners, double roller string-tree, GFS Lil' Killer rail humbucker pickups at neck and bridge, GFS 10K True Coil noiseless high output single coil in the middle position. A 500K push pull pot for coil splitting. A 500K push pull pot for a master tone wired 50's style using a .047 polyester capacitor in the down position and a Sprague .022 Orange Drop capacitor in the up position. An in-guitar Antec effects board with boost, overdrive and two types of distortion, plus true bypass. The Antec board is powered by a Fishman 9v battery tremolo cover that is rechargeable. Oh yeah, this guitar was entirely outfitted with spare parts on hand. It sounds very good with all of the new guts (yes, I do know where GFS pickups come from)! The four screw tremolo (vibrato) tailpiece could stand an upgrade to a fully floated Schaller Floyd Rose unit. A Fender LSR roller nut wouldn't be bad a bad addition either.

I know. USA Predators were a mixed bag, so to speak. Some were great and others not so much. When I got this thing used, it was in the not so much side of the column. Dirty, abused and when strung up and setup sounded very dull with the stock electronics. However, the wood on this one is good and resonates very well. Everything was in need of clean-up and care, frets, neck, electronics cavity (how does dirt get in there?), but it turned into a great sounding playable guitar for very little money and time.

PV's high-endish MIA geetars of the past 15 years or so are usually quite excellent. But, the bargain basement MIA stuff from the 1980s and 1990s seemed to rarely occupy such a lofty position in the geetar kingdom. These were all CNC-manufactured guitars, back when making guitar bodies and necks via a CNC mill was something new and advanced.

I've got a Peavey Reactor I've hung onto since somewhere back in the 90s. It was $225 new plus tax. I partly still hang onto it with the sentiment of "how cool is that, a MIA guitar for 2 Benjamins". But as far as where the electronics and hardware are made, I dunno. But at the time I bought it over a Squier because the Squier had a laminate/plywood body and the PV was solid wood.

But I've thought that guitar is truly decent playing/sounding but the tuners are the weakest components, just too chunky when trying to fine tune. But I've been hanging onto that guitar for "someday" plans to do some cosmetic (black abalone pick-guard) hardware (tuners) and electronic (pickups) upgrades. I left it with an ex-GF for a while, and after I moved on, and she did too, it seemed to gather a ding or too from her following suitors, but i eventually got it back so it's now got some "history marks". LOL

The story is about a team of CIA operatives named Cantrell, or Joe Bob as some call him, who was sent on a mission to terminate a major drug barren leader. Of course things messed up and the leader was killed by a predator, but because of the wounds Joe Bob gained from a fire-fight with the leader, he passed out after seeing the drug lord being slaughtered by a giant creature.

Joe Bob later woke up surrounded by another allied army team, he was arrested and sent back to a fort. He later went on trial for butchering a whole village of drug pushers, convinced he was being punished because the army was scared of the real killer, who was a predator. He asked for his lawyer to prove his innocence.

As I was reading this comic I really started to get into the sub-plot storyline, you see what the French war characters thought the predators were. At first they thought they were ghosts, and then Jean found a predator helmet that came from a dead predator. He then thought it was some kind of new Nazi gasmask and that the predators were helping the Nazis.

(SPOILER ALERT) This was all good until the letter ended and Griggs received some news that Joe Bob has killed himself and that the trial has ended, after that, Griggs pulls the predator helmet from the backpack that Frenchman Jean found during the war, and that was it, the end.

For me I think the whole WWI sub-plot should have been the main story, because the actual story about Joe Bob and Griggs ended disappointingly, they could have gone a lot further with the main story, you also never found out what became of the predator that Joe Bob saw, was it hunted and killed? Or did it return to where it came from, happy with its successful hunt? We may never know.

Life-history theory predicts that maturity and resource allocation patterns are highly sensitive to selective predation. Under reduced adult survival, selection will favour genotypes capable of reproducing earlier, at a smaller size and with a higher reproductive effort. When exposed to water that previously held fish, (size selective predators which prefer larger Daphnia), individuals of Daphnia hyalina reproduced earlier, at a smaller size and had a higher reproductive investment. Hence the prey was able to switch its life history pattern in order to become less susceptible to predation by a specific predator. The cue that evokes the prey response is a chemical released by the predator.

Ice Cube began recording The Predator in early 1992 but the album took on a completely different direction in the wake of the six days of rioting in Los Angeles which began on April 29. The riots were sparked by the acquittal of the four policemen and, like most people, Cube was deeply disturbed by the verdict.
