6)  Training Institute Wrap Up

Each summer, HOBY conducts a Training Institute (TI), gathering its key volunteer leaders from across the nation. Volunteers learn and exchange ideas on best practices in program management and development, youth leadership training, fundraising, recruitment, marketing and more. The participants return to their home sites and resume their responsibilities with renewed enthusiasm and vision, and further train their site’s volunteers.

All Training Institutes are organized with the collaboration of the volunteers themselves, who serve on the planning committee, as workshop trainers and as TI Chairpersons. The registration deadine is Friday, July 15, 2011 at midnight PDT.

The 2011 Training Institute (TI) for HOBY volunteers was held in Houston, TX, from Thursday, August 11 to Sunday, August 14.  Attending on behalf of Maryland were Director of Volunteerism Kayla Tufares and Director of Junior Staff Tracy Wertheimer, as well as Director of Operations Brandon Pettit (attending on behalf of Washington, DC), and as a trainer, Seminar Chair Aaron Bernstein.

As part of TI, annual awards reflecting on the past year are awarded.  Maryland was highly honored earning Outstanding Leadership Seminar (highest possible achievement), Superior Corporate Board (2nd highest achievement), Recruitment commendation, Website - 3rd Place nationally, and 15 year volunteer, and entering his 4th year as Leadership Seminar Chair, Aaron Bernstein was honored as one of three Volunteers of the Year nationally, the highest award that HOBY can award any individual.

Many thanks and congratulations to the entire 2011 seminar committee, corporate board, and alumni association.  Here's looking towards an OUTSTANDING 2012!
