Hi Folks,

A chap called Jens offered to build a helper for Linux.

It is now ready for beta testing!

I have used it in Ubuntu, and it definitely works for me. It is a command line utility at the moment though - and installing it requires that you are moderately competent at the command line.

<snip>

Please unzip, follow the instructions in the readme, and post here to let us know how it went for you!

Thank you Jens!

Please note that this is getting increasingly out of date - and that's going to get worse when I release the next update (Dec 2012).

I did start a thread to see if anyone was interesting in taking up where Jens left off. Please email me if that might be you.

Oh dear.

Sad.

Surprised there isn't more demand for this.

Get someone at http://www.guru.com to give you a quote to build this? You have the spec ready to post there don't you? Likely to be cheap I think?

I'll work with the half-broken version & prevent updates or something.

Cheers.

Hi Stactrac,

I could probably get a helper built for not too much - but the issue is keeping it updated as we add new features and tweak things.

That's a pain to manage, and there just doesn't seem to be the linux demand to make it make sense for me.

The old helper works a bit - but it shows this problem clearly with the fact that it hasn't been updated for our new features and api.

sorry.

It might be because this thread is hard to find. It took me 15 minutes of digging through the old forum, realizing there is a new forum and then stumbling on this. Most people look at the old thread, see the lack of interest from devs, assume there is no chance of getting code for the old helper so it can be fixed and promptly give up. Weren't there several offers for assistance in the old Linux Helper thread?

Anyways, I'm one of the people who installed the free app, tried to get the helper working (file browser works, streaming doesn't) and is now giving up ... :shrugs: ... c'est la vie.

Hi Sad Panda,

there were some offers of assistance, but sadly none of them have come to anything.

I agree it is a shame, but I'm not able to take on maintaining another platform.

I agree with what Sad Panda said. I too searched the old forum for ages before realising that there's a new one.

That said, I can't help keep the thing up to date myself (I'm a beginner *nix user, not an expert programmer) but I'd love to use the finished product if/when someone builds it.
