Problem summary:  Get this                      Something is there. it isn't VLC

What are the steps to produce the issue?        Updated to 5.0.30(2498) and added computer which is successful but then i get that message

What did you expect to happen?     Since it has not worked for a few months now, maybe for it to work

What actually happens?   finds computer but says   something is there. it isn't VLC

Which version of the app are you using?    android
(iPhone, iPad, Android - which version)

Which helper version are you using?      Version 5.51
(Mac, Windows - which version)

Not sure if it is because I am in the Windows 10 Preview Builds and running the latest version of that. Until now it would find my computer and vlc, but would not find other drives or show what i was watching. Now it will not find VLC.

this is supposed to trigger when VLC Remote finds something running a webserver - but it isn't VLC.
It was broken previously - and we fixed it in this build.

It may be that you have found some scenario where it still isn't working properly though.

Can you try the following:

1) on your computer - open

if it asks for username/password
username (leave blank)
password vlcremote

now you should see the vlc remote web interface (or something else!)

can you click on view source (somewhere in the menu for your browser) and send that to me at

make sure to mention that it relates to this issue so I can keep the thread
please also confirm which version of VLC you are running

thank you!

I'm using an iPad. I have installed Helper Version - MAC 3.65 (10). I also get a "Something is there. it isn't VLC" message. In addition I get a  "No sign of VLC at that computer" despite having VLC updated to Version 3.0.6 Vetinari on my Macbook Pro.

Hi,

you'll find the 'connection help' button on the helper.

Please click on that and it should help you to run through the tests and troubleshooting to figure out what is blocking the connection.

If it doesn't, then please let me know what you get for each of the tests.
