Some DVD conversions won't play

I converted the DVD "Star Wars - A New Hope" but it won't play properly. There have been a few times when it played for a few seconds then stopped. Most of the time it won't even start. Most other DVD conversions have worked fine.
I've had two other DVD conversions that had problems at the end of the movie that I partially solved by removing the reference in "stream.m3u8" to the last file which has a much larger size than any of the others. Trying this trick with Star Wars didn't help (nor did I expect it to) because the problem is with the beginning of the movie and throughout.
Does anyone have recommendation of conversion settings to change that may fix this problem?

best bet is probably to use something like handbrake to rip an mp4 and go from that.

not ideal - but it is what it is.

This is for "VLC Streamer" to use movies served by "VLC Streamer Helper" which does the conversion and puts the movie in its library. I suspect that "VLC Streamer Helper" must be used to add movies to its library in order for "VLC Streamer" to list them. It is the most convenient method anyway. Any other method, even if as a workaround, would probably be too cumbersome. My objective is to either fine-tune "VLC Streamer Helper" or submit a request to Hobbyist Software to support the conversion necessary to allow DVDs such as Star Wars to play. Otherwise, conversion will be too much trouble to go through just to watch it with "VLC Streamer".
