MLK Marade (march-parade) is best shot in a long time for KC to have a march-parade to fully honor the man of peace and non-violence that Martin Luther King, Jr served our nation.  For those that might be a little weather averse, consider that Denver’s Marade is nearing its third decade of publicly honoring MLK (and their mile-high mountain city doesn’t stop them from drawing out citizens to celebrate –with only Atlanta and San Antonio drawing a larger crowd) or consider that children in NYC or Chicago are daily in much colder weather just getting to school.

You can start your day with MLK Forum at 8:30 (at All Souls), followed by Breakfast at 9:30, and then Marade (11-12am starts at Truman and Paseo, goes south to 22nd with brief left and then right on Vine St to 23rd, followed by rally at Bethel Square at noon  àdonations for parade are welcomed and to be sent to Bethel AME Church at 2329 Flora, KCMO).  Obama and other leaders have gone the extra mile to publicize “Make It a Day On, Not a Day Off.”

KC Marade has Cong. Cleaver, Alvin Brooks, several city council members, many ministers, many organizations, many youth groups, horses, vehicles, KC Boys Choir, KC Girls Choir, Marching Cobras and the Wildcats (with marching band stepping and drumline competitions by stage at 23rd and Vine)…

The youth of our city need your visible and vocal support.  Please give them the simple gift of your presence.

[SRBofAS] United Progressives AND Non Violence trainning for All

Attention Activists:

(Please share and forward this information)

On Saturday, January 28 there will be two events of interest to many.

From 1:00 to 4:00 United Progressives of Kansas City will meet with the goal of bringing together many of the Progressive and Liberal organizations working to improve our city and region.

Progressives --

Join us at the United Progressives meeting to be held, Saturday, January 28, 1PM -- 4PM,

at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church,

4501 Walnut St., KCMO. We'll have finger-type

food this time rather than a pot luck. You are welcome to bring food items. We'll supply the drinks.

We'll have a full agenda.  Agenda will include

statements by participants about their organizations, projects and causes. Two minute limit for each speaker. Distribution of handouts suggested. Other agenda items include: report from communications committee and approval of name United Progressives.

Please note the event on your calendar.

See you January 28.

From 4:00 to 8:00 there will be a training session in Non-Violent Protest and Demonstration. This will be supported and presented by Occupy KC, Peaceworks, and the Social Responsibility Board among others.

This might be very useful to ALL who care enough to stand up for their beliefs from time to time.

Hope to see you all at one or both of these events.

Bring food to share ...

Sorry.  There’s also a parade tomorrow the 14th at 9am by the People’s Movement (Meet at Ward Chapel AME Church 2126 Prospect Ave.; March To Faith Deliverance COGIC 1709 Highland).

Occupy KC and The People’s Movement will also be joining the Marade (march-parade) on the 16th

Though we already had over two dozen parade entrants, couple dozen city notables, many participating organizations and sponsors…, we still needed to fully budget for this big event.  FYI, two days ago the Marade Steering Comte officially passed fundraising goals and the Marade is officially on!

It’s been wonderful to see so many people and groups come together.  Also, the City of Kansas City is now an official sponsor of the KC Marade.

If you are moved to support this heartfelt endeavor, donations are still be welcomed.  At this point, everything else that comes in will be great gravy (funding for next year, prize money for youth essays and bands, food and beverages for the masses, participation of schools and ptas…).  Make out your donations to Bethel AME Church at 2329 Flora, KCMO, 64108).

Thank you much to one and all.
