Oscar Sunday” with Bob Butler
Come at 9:50 a.m. and take the Oscars Diversity Quiz! The Academy is under fire for not having any black directors or actors in its nominations this year, as well as having a dearth of women. How have they fared historically? Test your knowledge by taking the quiz. The questions (and answers) will be shown on the big screen.
Films are meant to entertain, educate, and examine as well as to provide escape from reality for a little while. A Forum favorite, Bob Butler is a movie editor at the Kansas City Star. He will discuss highlights, fads and directions in the movies of 2014 and canvass the audience for their ideas and choices.

“Fast Food Workers Fight for $15″ with Terrance Wise Kansas City workers have helped build and lead the national fast food workers’ movement for wages of $15 an hour and the right to form a union. Local leader, Terrance Wise, recently profiled in the New York Times, will speak about the difficulties of workers providing for their families at current wage levels and why they are organizing.

“Antitrust Law and Policy at a Crossroads” with Ann Marie Marciarille
Can a firm be “too big” in a culture that values efficiency and scale? Has Antitrust Law Policy lost the necessary vocabulary even to consider the issue? “Privatizing Government Services” with John Sharp
Cities across the country are laying off municipal workers to contract with private, for-profit firms to furnish municipal services, encouraged by the American Legislative Exchange Council and others such as the Heritage Foundation. Water service, ambulance billing, jails, and building and event security are examples. Kansas City Councilman John Sharp, a frequent critic of privatization, explains the issue.

Whether or not you were able to attend the first Ally training session held at All Souls, you are invited to session 2. Training will specifically address being an effective and respectful white ally for black/brown people in our daily lives and at events/direct actions. The session is 5-7pm Sunday, Mar 1 at Vacant Farm, 3333 Roanoke Rd, KCMO. It is tricky to find, so study a map or ask someone who has been there.
