num_comments attr wrong?

Hi there!

I was playing around with the API and noticed that the num_comments seem wrong. Here are my queries:

http://api.thriftdb.com/api.hnsearch.com/items/1-8896f

Tells me that 1-8896f has 20 comments, but if I query:

http://api.thriftdb.com/api.hnsearch.com/items/_search?sortby=create_ts%20desc&limit=100&filter[fields][discussion.sigid][]=1-8896f

It tells me that it can only find 15 comments.

Please correct me if my queries are not correct, but shouldn't the first query return num_comments: 15 ?

Hi Joseph,

Sorry for the late reply. The 'num_comments' attribute is calculated at indexing time and sometimes it includes a count of comments that get deleted subsequently.
