Folks,

Does anyone have a copy of OP 1289, or TM 9-252? These are the
manuals for the single 40 MM Bofors AA gun. The Pampanito crew is
about to start a restoration. We have OP 820 which covers the twin
mount and the M1 gun, but we would like to find a manual that covers
the M3 single mount.

Does anyone have a 40 MM Bofors tool set? Many of the dissasembly and
re-assembly steps would be safer and easier if we could find the
proper tools.

Thank you,

rich

I am with a group of gents restoring a Fremantle Class patrol boat in
Australia. My job, with another gunner, is the restoration of the
single 40mm L60 Bofors on the vessel. I believe it is on an M3 single
mount but cannot confirm. I can send photo's if you wish.

If you happen to obtain the manual you are seeking below, could you
contact me as we have limited resources to complete the job and a
manual would of course make it a little easier. Although a gunner, I
am hesitant to start stripping the gun without some guidence as we
have never operated this type of gun before.

Thank You

Rob

Rob,

Although not the Navy manual, 40 MM Antiaircraft Gun, TM 9-1252, 1951,
is an Army service manual for that includes the single Bofors 40mm on
an M3 mount. There is a copy of the relevant part up at:

http://hnsa.org/doc/#guns

We also have the Navy manuals for the dual and quad. mounts, in
those, there is detailed information on the M1 gun.

We are still looking for the Navy single mount manual, I know there is
a copy in the National Archives in College Park, MD. We just need to
find someone with a color scanner and time in the DC area.

Folks,

The second Bofors for Pampanito is finally getting ready for paint.  See the description and photos at:
http://maritime.org/pres/bofors/index.htm

We are still looking for some of the parts to borrow and replicate, if we cannot find originals:
