So my daughter is 10 and starting to develop her own opinions about music.

She has a iPhone 3g which she uses as a iPod Touch, mainly for the
spotify and Pandora apps. The system is volume-limited and she has a
Philips plug-in desktop stereo for her room. She would like to start
collecting her own music to listen to. In my simplistic view of the
world, she should be able to dip into my largish library on the
network and get what she wants.

However, she wants things that aren't in my library, e.g., Akon, Avril
Lavigne, Niki Minaj, etc.

How to proceed? To acquire the music she wants, I currently have to
expend my resources to acquire stuff, that in some circumstances, I
would not otherwise invest in. In fact, I might want to boycott Avril
Lavigne's "Girlfriend" song.

So, how does one manage this problem? I don't want to give her free
reign to my Apple ID, I don't want her buying computers! I could tell
Apple she's 18, set up the account in her name, and cover the account
with a debit card linked to her bank account?

Or do I need to be thoroughly aware of every purchase she makes? I
don't currently spend much time worrying about what she chooses to
listen to on Spotify (although my friends give me a little grief about
the amount of Lady Gaga I apparently listen to...)

Alternatives? Opinions?

I'd get her an income stream (either pocket money or some kind of job)
and let her experience scarcity as it relates to the consumption of
music.

Listening to bad music is part of growing up. I wouldn't attempt to police this.
