Greetings from House of Musical Traditions!
We’ve got an important announcement about our CD department:
unfortunately, it’s going to go away pretty soon.
We have changed with the times over the years—we first carried LPs,
then cassettes (we still have a few left!) and then CDs of all sorts.
For many years we had a booming recordings department--we carried and
could special order all kinds of hard-to-find stuff. Back in the late
90’s, with the advent of Amazon and other online sale outlets, we
decided to scale back our CD department to only artists who are local
to the DC area.
Now, with further advances especially in digital downloads, we’ve
found that CD sales have dropped quite a bit—so we’re choosing to
focus our space, resources and time on other things. We love
supporting our vibrant local music community, so this is painful for
us.
However, we will be continuing to support our local musicians with
something new! Starting in perhaps the next month, we’ll be hosting
weekly in-store performances/meet-and-greets with local artists. On
Saturday afternoons, you’ll get to listen to an acoustic performance,
chat with the artist, and buy their merchandise. Stay tuned for
details on this – and if you haven’t yet “liked” our Facebook page,
you might want to do so, so you can be kept posted on that schedule!

And of course, we have the wonderful Takoma Park Open Mic every Sunday
(at Capital City Cheesecake), which usually features about 20 local
artists each week in a diverse range of genres/styles. To stay in
touch about that, “like”

And don’t forget the IMT concert series, which features many wonderful
local artists:
www.imtfolk.org. Concerts are held in Rockville and
Takoma Park – plus there is a series of Family Concerts!
To facilitate the phaseout of our CD inventory, we’ll be having a sale
from February 9 (Takoma Park Day, because it’s 2/09/12!) through March
15. Local artist CDs will be marked down to $10 or less. We hope
you’ll come and stock up on some wonderful local treasures (many
Grammy and Wammie winners among them!). Most of the CDs are also
available to listen to in our store play, so you can hear before you
buy.
Also, we have a special collection of both used and new CDs in our
Amazon store:
http://www.amazon.com/shops/hmtrad . Expect that
inventory to increase after we phase out our in-store sales.
Thanks to all our customers who have supported both HMT and our local
music community through the years. Stay tuned for updates about our
weekly in-stores, which we’re very excited about!
