Hi,

I paid $100 for Invest but my son George only attended Head for a couple of weeks. I would really appreciate a refund of the $100. My address is 1205 Nichol Lane Nashville TN 37205. Thanks,

Head Middle Magnet School will create a culture in which the academic and social foundations of all students are built and fostered beyond district and state expectations.

To achieve our vision, we must…

Provide meaningful collaborative and professional development for all faculty and staff

Ensure ongoing communications between all stakeholders

Strengthen academic rigor for all students, in all subjects

          Value and embrace diversity

Promote global citizenship for all stakeholders

Dear Parent(s) and/or Guardian(s):

I hope everyone had a restful and relaxing Fall Break.

This year MNPS has made improvements to our Optional Schools Application process formerly called the Fall Application and Spring Application process.  This year we will have one rolling process. Parents and schools will both benefit from combining the Fall Application (Lottery) and Spring Application (Open Enrollment) processes.  This new process allows parents to make all of their choices at one time and it also allows for earlier school placement of students for school planning. The Optional Schools Application process will begin at November 1 and end on November 30.

The football team will travel to J. T. Moore Middle School on Thursday, October 18. The game will begin at 4:45 p.m.

Next week, on Thursday, October 25, the football team will play McKissack Middle Magnet at home (H. G. Hill). The game will begin at 4:45 p.m.

On Monday, October 22, MNPS will issue the first Report Card for the nine-weeks grading period. Please review your child’s report card with him/her, sign the report card, and return the report card to your child’s homeroom teacher. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teachers.

The first Constructed Response Assessment (CRA) will be administered on Tuesday, October 23. The CRA is a math test that will be given to all students 5th – 8th grade. This test consists of four (4) in-depth word problems. These word problems will be solved by each student. The student will also be required to explain, in written form, why they chose to solve the word problem in the way they solved the problem. The students need to budget their time and spend approximately fifteen minutes on solving and explaining each problem. The CRA will be administered during first period. Please make sure your child is on time to school. Please contact your child’s math teacher if you have any questions.

Twice each nine-weeks grading period, Head Magnet will reward students that are doing well academically and behaviorally by allowing these students to come to school out of Standard School Attire (SSA) with dressing specifications they will need to follow. Specific information will be sent home by each grade level team. Please look for this information, review this information with your child, develop a plan with your child on how he/she will meet the specifications, and encourage/help your child each day to meet the goals that have been set. The second out of SSA day is Friday, October 26. Please remember, all students must qualify/earn being out of SSA according to the guidelines set by their teachers.

Hillsboro High School is hosting an Open House for prospective 9th grade students on Tuesday, October 30 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. You can apply to attend Hillsboro via the Optional School Application Process that will begin Thursday, November 1 and end Friday, November 30. A flyer for this event has been attached to this E-Bulletin.

On Monday, November 5, Head Magnet will issue Progress Reports. Please review your child’s Progress Reports with him/her, sign the Progress Report, and return the Progress Report to his/her teachers. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teachers.

Tuesday, November 6th is Parent/Teacher Conference Day in MNPS, school will not be in session. Teachers will contact parents who are in need of conferences with their child’s teachers.

On Friday, November 9, Head Magnet’s PTSA will hold its annual Fall Festival. More information is forthcoming from the PTSA.

We will administer the second Discovery Education Assessment (DEA) on Tuesday, November 13 – Thursday, November 15. The DEA will be administered during first period. Please make sure your child is on time.

On Wednesday, November 14, MNPS will issue Progress Reports. Please review your child’s Progress Reports with him/her, sign the Progress Report, and return the Progress Report to his/her teacher. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teachers.

The Writing Assessment that 5th and 8th grade students will take in February will be administered online.  Head recently purchased a typing program called Typing Pal that is available online. The instructions for signing up were sent home through your student’s related arts classes. If you did not receive these instructions, please go to Head’s website and access the directions for Typing Pal from the Programs tab. We strongly suggest that all students get familiar with the keyboard to strengthen their typing skills before the assessments. Even if your child is in the 6th or 7th grade, they need to develop their typing skills for their upcoming writing assessment, high school, college, and the profession they will enter as an adult.  Having strong typing skills will be a must to do well on this test in addition to your child’s writing skills. Head Magnet’s website can be accessed by clicking on the following link to gain access to the Typing Pal Instructions. http://www.headmagnetms.mnps.org/site8.aspx

St. Anselm’s Episcopal Church provides tutoring for Head Magnet students this year on the 2nd and 3rd Saturday of each month from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Tutoring will take place at the church which is located at 2008 Meharry Blvd., Nashville, TN 37208. The tutoring is free. However, if you are interested in receiving tutoring, please contact Dr. Digna Forbes at dfo...@mmc.edu. The tutors want to be prepared for the students who will receive tutoring. Please contact Dr. Forbes to inform her that you are interested in receiving tutoring and the subjects in which you need help.

Thank you for choosing Head to partner with you in your child’s/children’s education.
