WLA Movie Screening & Panel Discussion: “Made In India”
Today, Monday, November 15th at 5pm in Pound 204, WLA is hosting a screening of "Made In India." A panel discussion with the directors, moderated by Prof. Elizabeth Bartholet, will follow directly after the movie. Indian dinner provided! Co-sponsored by HLSRJ. "Made in India" is a feature length documentary film about the human experiences behind the phenomena of "outsourcing" surrogate mothers to India. The film shows the journey of an infertile American couple, an Indian surrogate and the reproductive outsourcing business that brings them together. Weaving together these personal stories within the context of a growing international industry, “Made In India” explores a complicated clash of families in crisis, reproductive technology, and choice from a global perspective.
Women in Peacekeeping Panel
Passed 10 years ago, UN Security Council Resolution 1325 calls on the UN, governments and civil society to ensure that women are full contributors to peace negotiations, post-conflict rebuilding and peacebuilding. Implementation has been disappointing, generating debates and resolve to improve it going forward. Please join us for this important discussion on Tuesday, November 16th at 7:30pm in Hauser 104, featuring Clare Hutchinson (Gender Unit, Department of Peacekeeping Operations, UN), Sanam Anderlini (ICAN), John Tirman (MIT's Center for International Studies), and AnneJannette Rosga (former director of WILPF). Moderated by Marcia Greenberg, Fletcher School alumna. Dinner will be provided.
