WLA/HALA: A Discussion with Judge Solomy Bossa of the ICTR
Successes and Challenges of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda: A Discussion with Sitting Judge Bossa. Please join Harvard African Law Association and the WLA for an exciting paper presentation and discussion with Judge Solomy Bossa of the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (UNICTR). Judge Bossa is the former secretary of the International Association of Women Judges, and has served as a Judge of the East African Court of Justice and the High Court of Uganda. Dinner will be served! Mon., Nov. 1, 6PM, Griswold 110.

The WLA Presents Gender and Globalization: Perspectives from Women in the Global South, a Conversation with Professor Gita Sen on Tuesday November 2, 12 - 1pm in Pound 201. Dr. Gita Sen, a pioneer in the field of gender and development, will discuss globalization, development, and international engagement from the perspective of women in the Global South. JLG Student Note Competition
As many of you may be embarking on winter writing, please consider the Journal of Law & Gender (JLG) 2011 Student Note Competition, open only to current HLS students. The winner will be published in the Summer 2011 issue of the JLG and may have the opportunity to present his or her scholarship at the JLG's spring symposium alongside preeminent gender studies professors. Winter writing proposals (for credit) are due on Friday November 5, so act fast!
The title of the symposium will be Sexual and Reproductive Rights: Barriers to Access, Roadmaps to Fulfillment. We encourage writers to explore this theme in connection with one of the following topics: The feminization of HIV and poverty; Critical race studies and intersectionality; Gender-motivated violence and patriarchy; Queer theory; International law and human rights; Abortion and trauma-based restrictions
Articles on topics outside the above listed will be accepted and strongly considered, but preference will be given to outstanding student writing in the area of sexual and reproductive rights.
