WLA Events
   
WLA Info Sessions on New Domestic Violence Court Watch Program 
This spring, the WLA will launch a domestic violence court watch program to collect data on the disposition of domestic violence cases in the Boston area. Volunteers will travel in groups to downtown Boston twice per month to observe court hearings. Information sessions will be held during the first week of spring semester. Interested participants should attend one of two lunchtime information sessions on: Wednesday, January 26 at Noon in Pound 100 - Food served!; and Thursday, January 27 at 12:15pm in Pound 100 - Food served!  Accepted volunteers will then attend one training session before participating in the program.  
  
WLA/HLS Target Shooters Indoor Range Event 
Never shot a gun before? Always wanted the opportunity to try? Join the WLA and the HLS Target Shooters next Sunday, January 30. We will be co-sponsoring a trip to the Manchester Firing Line, an indoor range in New Hampshire, where you will have the chance to shoot an assortment of pistols and even an assault rifle. All levels of experience are welcome, from novice to experienced shooter. Before shooting, everyone will be given a brief introduction to the weapons and basic safety, and we have a range officer and experienced shooters present for any questions.  We will meet in the Pound parking lot at 9:15 am and return by 12:30 pm. The cost is $15 per shooter, with a $5 discount for drivers. If interested, please RSVP to Marcia Hook at mh...@jd12.law.harvard.edu by Friday January 28. 

WLA/SALDF Lobbying 101 
On Thursday, January 27, from 6:00 to 8:30pm, WLA and SALDF are co-sponsoring Lobbying 101.  Lobbying 101 will be run by Alexis Fox, the State Director of Massachusetts for the Humane Society of the United States. Ms. Fox, an attorney with extensive lobbying experience, will be leading a seminar on practical lobbying techniques for citizen advocates through animal-related issues such as factory farming, domestic abuse and more. Although she will be discussing bills related to the Humane Society's mission, the skills can be used to advocate for any important cause!  Free Vegan Sushi and Home-Baked Desserts!  For Questions: Contact sa...@law.harvard.edu 

WLA Panel: Life as a Female Attorney at a Global Law Firm 
Join the WLA and attorneys from the Boston office of Weil for a candid discussion about life as a female attorney on Wednesday, February 2, at noon in Pound 101.  We will be discussing topics such as the challenges facing women who work at large firms, legal recruiting, mentoring and more.  Lunch will be served!  See attached flier. 

First Annual Fashion Swapaganza Around the Corner 
The WLA and Green Living Program are sponsoring a fashion swap for men, women, and children. To refresh your closets, bring clothes to donate January 31 - February 4th at tables in the Hark during lunch. For every 2 items donated, come to our Fashion Swapaganza on Sunday, January 6th, at noon to pick out a new item. The Swapaganza will include a raffle for prizes, a documentary film feature, and representatives from local shelters. Bonuses for business attire and winter coats & boots. So start collecting your clothes now! 
  
Register for the Women’s Law Association Annual Conference! 
The Women's Law Association asks you to save the date for our Fifth Annual Conference – This is What Equality Looks Like: The World We Want for Women and Girls.  Our conference will take place on Friday, February 11, 2011 in Ropes-Gray.  The conference will include four impressive panels, Judiciary, Economics, Girls, and Health, as well as a Keynote Address, which will be announced at a later date. Sign up for WLA Book Club with Professor Diane Rosenfeld! 
Didn't get into a reading group this semester? Come join WLA's book club! The first meeting will be on Tuesday, Feb. 15th at 7:30PM. We will be discussing Herland by Charlotte Perkins Gilman (available on Amazon here: http://www.amazon.com/Herland-Selected-Stories-Signet-classics/dp/0451525620/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1295574070&sr=1-1). The book is a feminist utopia and brings up interesting issues for a discussion about what the world might look like if women were in charge. Professor Diane Rosenfeld will be leading the discussion and dinner will be served.  Space is LIMITED! CRCL General Board Information Session 
CRCL is hosting its final PIZZA information session about applying to the general board on Monday, January 24 at 12PM in Pound 102.  The application for the General Board is available at HarvardCRCL.org and open to students with one semester of experience subciting for any journal.   CRCL has worked to advance innovative legal scholarship on issues relating to civil rights and civil liberties since its founding in 1966 as part of the Civil Rights Movement. We take enormous pride in our campus involvement and seek to foster a diverse community of intellectuals and change agents.  The G-Board is the backbone of the journal, participating in article selection decisions, contributing to the editing process, and enriching our vibrant progressive intellectual community.  We encourage our G-Board members to take a creative approach to our journal’s work and to make their opinions heard.    Please feel free to ask us questions by emailing EICs.CRC...@gmail.com
  
AAJ Women for Justice Education Fund’s 2011 Mike Eidson Scholarship 
The Women Trial Lawyers Caucus of the American Association for Justice (AAJ) is now accepting applications for the 2011 Mike Eidson Scholarship Fund.  The Fund was established by the AAJ Women’ Trial Lawyers Caucus in 2008, in honor of AAJ Past President Mike Eidson, whose vision and generosity inspired it.  The Scholarship is awarded annually to a rising 3L (or rising 4L in a night program) female student who has demonstrated a commitment to a career as a trial lawyer, along with dedication to upholding and defending the principles of the Constitution, and to the concept of a fair trial, the adversary system, and a just result for the injured, the accused, and those whose rights are jeopardized.  The application deadline is May 31, 2011 and the Scholarship will be awarded at the AAJ Annual Convention, which will take place this year in July in New York City.  See attached.
