Data Release 1 Ready to Support Cycle 17 HST Proposers

We are pleased to announce that the Hubble Legacy Archive (HLA) has
entered its Data Release 1 (DR1) phase of operation. The HLA is an
augmentation of the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) data archive service.
The goal is to optimize the science coming from the telescope by
providing better browsing capabilities and easy access to both
standard and enhanced Hubble products. A graphical footprint service
will be of particular interest to Cycle 17 HST proposers, since it
provides a powerful new tool for determining what observations have
already been made by HST. The ability to quickly preview up to 100
images or spectra at a time will also be useful for proposers. In the
longer run, we expect that the enhanced HLA data products, which
include astrometrically corrected combined images, source lists and
extracted spectra from slitless data, will also be of interest to
observers.

The HLA currently contains data for ACS, WFPC2, NICMOS, STIS, FOS, and
GHRS. The project is a collaboration between the Space Telescope
Science Institute (STScI), the Space Telescope European Coordinating
Facility
(ST-ECF), and the Canadian Astronomy Data Centre (CADC).
